Default Authentic ?

I know there have been issues with these. It measures exactly 2 1/4" X 3" and has the old cardboard smell. Would appreciate opinions on it's authenticity. I believe it to be authentic but do appreciate other opinions in case I missed something. TIA

I know these were reprinted and the reprints clearly have REPRINT 1991 on the back, but I didn't know there was an issue of counterfeits being passed off as originals. Is it a case of someone erasing the REPRINT 1991 and artificially aging the reprints or has someone made counterfeits meant to pass as originals? I have all of the Cubs minus Andy Pafko but I don't know if the fourteen Cubs that I do have are all legitimate, they all appear to match as far as I can tell.

Fonts on the genuine issue and the reprint look noticeably different to me. Pretty difficult to precisely duplicate something like that on a reprint, so I lean toward authentic on the card in question.

Default Looks real to me...

I have been trying to put together the entire 1947 Tip Top Set for the last 7-8 years and have spent a lot of time with the cards. I have made the mistake of buying a couple of fakes (including two in PSA holders).

The three things to look are:

- Measurements of the card. The fakes I have seen are the reprints which have been trimmed to remove the "reprint" text on the back. If the card measures correctly, that is a good sign.
- Font. As the previous poster mentioned, the font on the fakes look off vs. the genuine ones (see example below)
- Cropping on the photo. See below. The fakes are more zoomed than the original. See the example attached below. Notice how part of his cap is cut off on the top? Also, notice how more of the Braves logo is cut off on the bottom.

Based on what I can see, the card it is the real thing.

This is a tough tough set to put together (even if you are just trying to put a full team together). The cards are typically not in great condition and there are not a ton of them floating around out there.

Good acquisition and good luck!

Default More

The two cards below show the difference of a real 1947 Tip Top vs. a fake. The SGC 1 is the real card. Notice the font and the cropping of the photo.

The PSA 5, I am pretty sure, is a fake. It was recently posted in eBay for $2,500. I contacted the seller and they pulled it down.
