Default Any Topps Test Stuff At The National?

Anyone see any booths with a good selection of the old Topps test and oddball stuff?

Default Very Little

Steve Werley has a ton of the stuff, based on where he prices it, it looks like he will have a lot of it for a long time to come. He does have the goods though. A couple of other items in the room - 1967 Aaron Giant stand up with Mark Lodilinsky, Plaks at memory lane(exactly how many were in that find????), a couple of other odds and ends - nothing that I saw worth writing home about. Now the 1968 3d empty box and 1967 Stand up empty box in Legendary's auction tonight are unbelievable - had the stand up box in my hands - too cool!!!

I saw either two or three tables with some of the 1964 Topps Rookie of the Year multi-player cards. These are usually near-impossible to find.

Default 67 Stand up box!

AWESOME pickup on the stand up box Larry. I didn't even see what it went for yet, but that box is off the charts - extra large size, Mantle on the top and in excellent condition. Just awesome!

Steve must have bought those plaks on Sunday? Slim pickings I agree test-wise but my type run is getting there except for the biggies. Larry, sorry I missed you would have loved to talk tests. If you have a spare 55 stamp I am all ears. Saw the 68 discs, plus a few other good proofs but nothing new. I actually bought a Dan Dee Snider, regionally speaking but the selection was slim all around.

Dave,

I know Steve purchased some or all of his 1968 Plaks shortly after Mile High starting selling them off. He has had them for a little while.

Gotcha-thought you meant he had bought them that day.

Had a great time in Bawlmer but I have to say there was a dearth of test issues and the more regional/smaller Topps sets compared to the larger shows I have attended in the last 25 years or so. Aside from Steve Werley and a couple of other dealers there was not a whole lot out there; usually there are various pockets of things randomly strewn about. A quick recap of what I saw among the non-oddball dealers:

-a 61 Dice game going into one of the auction catalogs (B. Robby)
-an unopened box of 62 stamp albums
-a handful of 67 Pirates and Red Sox Stickers
-maybe three 67 Giant Stand Ups
-68 Plaks at Mile High and Steve Werley's booths (cheating on Werley, I know)
-3 or 4 68 3D's

Very slim pickings.

I must say I saw a whole lot of 74 Deckles, to the point I wonder how scarce they really are. I have noticed this phenomenon before. The 74 Stamp Albums are much harder, although the stamps proper are easy.

Anyone else notice some tests?

Dave,

Was Mike from Columbia City there? He usually has some Topps test issues and other oddball items. I didn't go to the Nat'l this year, but am surprised to hear that there weren't more Topps test issues available.

Mike,

Columbia City was there with their usual wide assortment of inventory. Though I wasn't looking for Topps test issues, I did buy a 1952 Tip Top bread label of Indians pitcher Lou Brissie from Mike, so that was a pleasant surprise.

Mike was there but he seemed to have what he always has and I saw mostly inserts at his table. Maybe I missed a few items but the dealers offering test issues may be a thing of the past as more and more stuff goes to catalog auctions.
