Default Would this turn you away...?

Hi all,

I'd like some opinions... as a collector, how do you feel about a cut auto displayed in this way? The auto originates from a gateway stamps autographed cover signed by Junior in 1989... it's 100% authentic and is a nice rookie pen signature. However, I'm not sure if the setup and display format, positioning of the cut in the slab etc. would turn off other collectors and fans. I personally don't mind a ton as I have been looking for a pen autograph of Griffey for a while and the HoF plaque lists his career accomplishments but it's always nice to have some other opinions.

Thanks!

I would like it better at the bottom.

I agree with that. Maybe I can crack it and move the auto down, then resubmit to PSA or something like that! Having the auto on the top isn't horrible though... a Junior auto is a Junior auto.

I tried a few mock ups with the auto on different postcards... some of these are pretty slick.

If that was from his Gateway Major League Debut cover, all I can think is what a shame.

In my opinion that cover matted with his HOF PC would be a great combo in that it would tell a story.

As a collector, as shown above, giving consideration to how many better presented autographs are available, I find it amusing at best.

However, I respect that whoever owns an autograph (or card, etc.) can do whatever they want with it, but sometimes I just don't get it.

If someone does what they want for their personal collection I can respect that. If it brings them pleasure, who am I to question.

It is indeed from the gateway debut cover. I'm a history major, so that part of it is special for me. That's about as rookie as you can get with Junior's auto, save for a few minor league signatures. I really have no reservations about leaving it in the case I would just want to make sure it had value should I ever need to sell it.

As for the bold quote above, and "telling a story" it really does make sense. His career started with his debut (the Gateway auto) and ended with the HoF (the postcard.) It's a piece that connects both ends of his amazing career.

I can get if for $100 even and free shipping. Is that a good deal for a Junior auto?

Personally, for that signature, I would prefer it intact on the cover and would pay the premium for the full cover.

Jr's cut signature and others can be had for less, srolling down a few on this page of sold items: https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fro...&LH_Complete=1

If it was me, I'd leave it alone. It's a good sig, that's all that matters. I've seen a lot of items framed much much worse. It's not that bad. Frank

Personally I don't like the cuts displayed like that. Same with the Perez Steele ones. Some look like 3rd grade art projects but that's just me. I think they look better autographed on the card or if it's a HOFer that has passed then a cut outside of the card matted in a display. Everyone has there choice on what they like and that is what makes everyone's collectibles so cool. Do what makes you happy and don't let anyone change your mind.

I have someone that can help me alter it a bit (the postcard/display format) if I were to crack it. Here's a mock up I made.

I have many cuts of deceased players on HOF plaques in my collection, either because they were not alive when they were elected to the HOF or actual signed HOF plaques are nearly cost prohibitive to own. As for Griffey, I would opt to put the cut signature with something else like the Barry Colla Postcard which looks very nice, or a Colla Rookie 8x10 photo, which the cut doesn't obscure as much of the image as it does the PC.

If you collect signed HOF plaques, you should hold out for an actual signed one. They don't come along that often, but they can be had.
