Default August Pickup Thread

Let's start things off with this "Lefty" I purchased from eBay. Have a great month, everyone.

You had a local show? Can you talk a little bit about what that was like? Masks and distancing and so forth? Many of us would love to hear about it.

Sure thing -- it's a long-running show with strong dealers from the midwest, about 100T, usually running Bi-monthly under normal circumstances. It's usually a 2-day affair, but reduced to Saturday only due to the virus this time.

There was an advertised mask mandate, and I'm happy to say that there was 100% compliance with this.
Social distancing was of course difficult, but people seemed to make an effort to stay several feet apart at tables much of the time.
Hand sanitizer stations abounded.
The venue was not as "packed" as usual.

The promoter and I are friendly, and confided that it wasn't clear if there would be a last-minute pulling of the plug from the county, which didn't happen.
The health board liaison did request one-way traffic in the building (a large fairgrounds shed with basic HVAC), but that wasn't ever going to work out.

As a physician, I feel like I should probably put my doctor hat on here too. It is probably not currently a good idea to go into any non-open air space with other people for >30 minutes right now.
Masks help with droplet spread (from a cough or sneeze), but not much with the aerosolized virus from normal breathing/speaking.
Our numbers in central Ohio are trending stable, but still significant.
So I will have some anxiety about having gone, and especially for our Dealer friends who were in there all day, with the longest risk of exposure based on time in the room.

If it had been the Wild West on masks, I would have been out of there instantly. As it was, I tried to limit my time there to 2 hrs and take as many reasonably precautions as I could.

If anyone else has questions, feel free to PM me -- would just ask that responses don't go here below, as I don't want to hijack the August Pickup thread.
Thanks for the question, D!

This is one of those cards that has seemingly seen a drastic rise in price recently. In fact, the two straight PSA 9's available on ebay right now will cost you either $105 or $120 before shipping and taxes are even factored in. Yowza. I got this sucker for less than a fifth of that, and if its centering is wrong, I don't wanna be right...

Got these in as part of a lot/small collection I bought. Also had a T206, my very first one (it's posted over in the other section). There were 3 graded cards total. In addition to what's pictured, there was a 1970T Boog Powell PSA 6. I don't deal in graded, so I don't plan on keeping any of these. If interested, PM me. THanks.

Took a chance on this one ungraded - 1947 Bond Bread. Looking for a showpiece card for my Musial corner. Going to send it in for grading.

Took a chance on this one, hoping the 'stain' wasn't the result of some fan thinking about Johnny Bench's time up in Buffalo and accidentally smearing hot wings gunk on the card, and the gamble paid off. It's just easily removable gum film on the front, only visible by tilting the card in the sunlight. One swipe of the panty hose and POOF!! it'd be gone. The 'notch' on the left side isn't fantastic, but the centering is pretty stellar...

Default Had to have it!

Nicely centered, with ear detail that is rarely seen. Good color and no creases.
Paper loss accounts for the grade. Three letters are missing from the Bio.

That 48 DiMaggio is trippy looking. I feel like I should be looking at it with a black light after a bong hit.

Default August Pickup Thread

Maybe some July purchases, but most of these were August deliveries. If you are looking for a theme, there isn’t really one. I’m slowly working on a ‘72 set, but the rest just generally fall into the category of random postwar cards I wanted and pulled the trigger on.

Very nice pick ups, John! I am particularly partial to that '72 Clemente, and Garvey was a childhood hero!

This set certainly isn't a showpiece and the player selection is somewhere between obscure and suspect, but it's a tougher little set than you might think and I am happy to have completed it.

Had a chance to pick up some 1954 Bowmans. Wasn't really looking for them but they were too nice to pass up.
