The first story is all about Red Grange. His Dad encouraged him to jump high. Then Red played Wheaton High School ball and got a job hauling 100 pound blocks of ice. Red knew football was his "dish". A former University of Illinois athlete George Dawson recruited him to play college for coach Bob Zuppke. "You've got speed to burn Red but you will have to learn how to cut back". In his first game VS Nebraska Red scored three touchdowns as Illinois whipped the Cornhuskers 34-0. Red carried ice again during the summer. October 18 1924 before 69,000 fans in their new stadium Red ran back the opening kickoff for a touchdown and had scoring runs of 95 yds 65 yds 54 yds and 48 yds also threw for a touchdown! Red led Illinois to her first conference in years (1925), and the pro offers started coming in. "It's the Bears for me Mr. Halas" 13 years with the Bears, one of his greatest thrill was he caught a forward pass giving the Bears the 1932 Championship. Then Red got a contract to broadcast College Football games.

Gather 'round grid fans and let me tell you the story of Army's fabulous twins Felix "Doc" Blanchard and Glenn Davis. The story of the Army-Navy game 1944 in Baltimore Stadium before 70,000 fans. Blanchard and Davis didn't do anything during the first half but their Army team carried a 7-0 lead Coach Blaik gave a great pep talk. The third period ends Army 9 Navy 7 Blanchard and Davis are fighting mad. Davis intercepts a pass to midfield it's a made to order situation for the 208 pound package of dynamite Doc Blanchard. Doc carries 7 times 48 yards touchdown Army. Doc huddles up his team and plans to run the "California Special" play when they get the ball back. Army gets the ball, Blanchard flips a lateral to the unguarded Davis who streaks through the secondary like greased lightning and a 60 yard touchdown. Army wins 23-7

Jim Thorpe a thrill a minute athlete and the fans loved him. Once when Jim was playing for the pro team Canton Bulldogs, they met a Western team that was led by a spark plugged end named Knute Rockne. Some fans thought "Thorpe is over-rated" (although in practice Jim kicked an 80 yard field goal). On the very first play Rockne smashed Thorpe to the turf. And again the great Rockne crashed through to throw Jim for a loss. Thorpe carries again and headed for the Rock and Jim kept going so did Rockne. Minutes later when Rockne came to and looked up, Thorpe was reaching down to help him to his feet. "Look here Rockne these people came to see me run and you were spoiling their fun but I had to bump you a little." Jim's old Carlisle coach Pop Warner was asked how Jim stacked up with Blanchard and Davis "Jim had the best qualities of both of them, and then some for good measure."

Up to West Point to play Army came the fabulous Carlisle Indians led by the incredible, the immortal Jim Thorpe! Thorpe is ripping Armys line to shreds Army can't handle Thorpe. A dejected Army player on the bench dreamed of obtaining just a part of Thorpe's success. The coach calls out to the youth on the bench "get out there and give it all you've got!" They called his number on the first play! Taking a handoff and heading for the hole, he and the linebacker met with a resounding crash. The youth on the bench first and last play as he suffered a broken leg by his hero Jim Thorpe. "Sorry to so hard but no one runs through big Jim".

Strange are the ways of fate. 40 years ago his athletic feats thrilled the world, but today Jim Thorpe is a sick and forgotten man. And what about the unfortunate Cadet? Everybody knows him well General Dwight "Ike" Eisenhower.

Johnny Lujack "The Shoe Filler" the story of an 18 year old called to quarterback Notre Dame's 1943 Varsity against Army before 76,000 fans. The giant Irish right end Jumbo Yonakor tries to settle Johnny down (Johnny is starting because starter Angelo Bertelli was called into service with the Marine Corps). Johnny is limping because his shoes are to tight the trainer gives him Bertellis shoes. Coach Frank Leahy gives a pep talk. Yankee Stadium is packed. "Pass play to Yonakor" goes for 65 yards then "Shoe-filler" hits Yonakor again for a touchdown! After hitting five in a row Lujack throws an interception but Johnny makes the tackle. Halftime talk from coach Leahy. Jim White intercepts Armys QB Glenn Davis Notre Dame's ball! Savage running by Creighton Miller and Jim Mello put the Irish in scoring position then Johnny hits Jumbo Yonakor with another score 13-0! Fourth Quarter now 20-0 and the Irish have the ball on the Army one yard line. In the huddle the players call the play they want Lujack to run a quarterback sneak "I'll give it a try" Lujack scores now 26-0 and as the game ends Johnny is carried off the field. The trainer and coach agree Lujack can keep Bertellis shoes.
