Default OT - Integration by the Yankees

My son is researching the book he is writing and he was just in Cooperstown. He found the following two items which I thought are quite interesting. The Yankees could have integrated with Hank Thompson in 1949, obviously they passed on that opportunity.

That letter is pretty bad. It is also pretty bad that it took until 1955 and Elston Howard for the Yankees when Mays was clearly the man just across town. I say that as a huge Yankees fan. It obviously didn't hurt them much in the late 40's and 50's, but they must have passed on some big time players. What might have been.....
