Default T3 Turkey Red find !! Pics added

Hello all,

I was contacted recently by a gentleman in South Carolina who was looking for information on a large group of Turkey Reds in his possession.

The vast majority of inquiries like this turn out to be someone with a stack of reprints. He did mention, however, that there were a few boxers in the group, so my ears perked up as I don't recall seeing a T9 reprint set.

Long story short, the cards were originally collected by his grandfather as a youth, passed to his father in the early 50's and then passed on to him upon his father's passing in 1996. They sat untouched since then.

The group consists of 86 T3 Turkey Reds (23 HOFers w/Cobb, Young, Speaker, 2 Lajoie, etc), 6 T9 Boxers and a lone Old Mill cabinet. The majority are first series cards and in fine shape. Interestingly, the grandfather's signature appears on one or two of the card backs.

Waiting for the Fedex guy over the last day or two has been a struggle and I am so glad to have the collection here with me now. As an aside, I promised the gentleman that I'd scan all the cards and create a photo book for him and his sons in honor and rememberance of their collection. Pretty sure I'll keep a copy for myself as well.

Very exciting to be able to re-introduce these cards to the hobby after 100 years.

Happy Collecting,
Craig

Nice! I'd be interested to know whether any of the T9s are no address or Turkey Red advertising backs [the latter shouldn't exist but figured I'd ask].

Default T9 Boxers

Hi Adam,

In terms of the few T9 boxers in the lot, none with the no-ad backs and no Turkey Red ad-backs. As you noted, the boxers shouldn't be found with the Ad-back type. Here's one for you to keep an eye out for - T9 boxers with the 1-75 (no Jack Johnson) checklist back.

See you Saturday,
Craig

Nice, dont appear to have pinholes, look like sharp corners, what are the plans for them? Are they really as nice as they look, or am I missing something?

Default Turkey Reds

Hi Big Red,

One card has pinholes (Devlin). A bit of creasing here and there - a couple relatively rough cards. A dozen or so with writing on the back - definite MKs. The majority are nice clean VGEX and EX. Maybe (fingers-crossed) a few even better.

The Old Mill cabinet (Armstrong, Wilson), is creased up, but is very clean otherwise, front and back with decent corners. Nice rare card.

My plan is to have most of them graded by PSA, then sort through them to upgrade my set and fill in some holes in my master set (all front and back variations). Many will be destined for the BST.

As an aside, they smell awesome. My wife even decided to take a whif and she also took the pictures.

Thanks,
Craig

I'm pretty sure Craig's existing T3 set in the works is PSA.
