Default 1887 Buchner Gold Coin Old Hoss Radbourn

I've been scrutinizing my collection during this crazy down time and have a question for the N284 Buchner Gold Coin collectors. I purchased a non graded Hoss Radbourn card way back in 1997 and just noticed... the card has no advertising on back (little slow I know). Is it possible these cards came without any advertising on back of card? My limited research indicates these cards all had advertising. Thanks

Some of the Mets cards can be found with full stock and blank backs. Here's a Mets card with an ad back and a poster card with an ad back. I'll post some blank backs that I have later today, when I get a chance to make some scans. Do you have a scan of your card? Is it skinned, or full stock?

Possibilities:
1) Counterfeit
2) Cut from Advertisement
3) Real, printed without advertising on back
4) Real, back separated during a soaking from a scrapbook (aka skinned). Happens with certain cards from this era.

Without showing us a picture, it's all just theories. Even with a scan, it's just better theories... ;-)

Default Anson blank back

Possibilities:

2) Cut from Advertisement
3) Real, printed without advertising on back

Possibly 2 or 3 --I once owned a Anson hand on Hip version "blank backed". Sold years ago for around 800.00.

Here are 2 blank backs on thick stock. I suppose they could just be missing a very thin layer that originally had the ad print. I have 5 or 6 more with blank backs that are thinner, which I assume are skinned. I included a card with the block lettering. The block letter ones that I have include the ad back. I have another blank, thick stock card on the way from Brockelman Auctions that I'll post later in the week.

Excellent. I really appreciate your follow up and knowledge. Be safe and enjoy your latest N284 from Brockelman.

David, which Radbourne do you have?
There's 2 variations, the blue socks one & the more generic red socks version.

Here's my old one of Hoss, also classified "hands above waist"

I have the blue socks. Is your variation blank back?

I believe purchase price was $225 back in 1997.

Nothing to contribute - I just wanted to post my two Gold Coins.

I do have a question - I know the type A back (which both of mine have) came in black and blue. Is one tougher to find than the other?

Bryan, I don't know about the ink color differences. Maybe someone else can chime in with that info. I can run a survey on what I have, and post the results later in the week. My guess is blue is the most often found...Is this Van der Ahe black and the Fogerty blue? I have trouble distinguishing these 2 colors.

Both of those look black to me. The Kelly above has a very blue back to compare against.

I think you are right. This Ward is blue. I'll have to check this week with my highest powered reading glasses and magnifying glass. I had never noticed the different ink colors before.

I never knew there were differences in ad-back colors either! I need to check my Buchner backs now. I believe I have six cards, total.

Excellent. Nice to know that blank back variation is not a fake/reproduction. Thanks to all for your responses and insight.

I still need to run a survey of blue vs. black. Looks like black is more often seen from the examples posted here. Here's the Mets card I got in this week. It has the same collector stamp that is found on a large find recently posted about on the non-sport board.
