Default Damaged in holder. What grade would you assign

this card?

And what do you predict for the winning bid?

I have zero doubt it got damaged during the slabbing process. It looks like a '2'. I can't predict where it will land, because most people bid on the label and not the card.

How the heck could that happen in a holder? During slabbing seems like the only possibility. I'd be ticked.

OUCH! I submitted a 86 Jordan for a friend years ago and they graded it an 8 OC despite putting a huge ding in the middle. Not fun.

I'd probably grade that a 2 with the damage as well. Here is my SGC 2.5 that has a slight back crease and front wear, but otherwise a beauty. It only gets the .5 due to the excellent centering.

+1 agree I would be upset also. That card would not grade as a 5 now. In my uneducated opinion I would agree with a 2. Shame the rest of the card is really good looking and the grading of the 5 would have seemed warranted

Depends on how that corner looked before they mucked it up even worse. If it looked like the other 3, it would not have looked out of place in a '6' or '7'.

I may be too harsh, but there is paper separation and if the card regrades I think you are looking at a 1.

“ light corner wear (please note the damage to the top right corner where the top layer of paper has partially detached)”

That’s one way to say it. Light.

Default ugh.....

No surpise to see what company's holder it resides in. Almost unbelievable that this card would be shipped back to the owner looking like that. So bad!

I hope the original owner was compensated but I doubt it. Mind boggling!

Mike

I would be more interested in how PSA handle damages of customers' cards caused by them. Anyone has any experience would like to share? I would assume PSA would offer to buy the card instead of (let's say) paying $500 as a damage and let customers keeping those damaged cards.

064 has got to be from long time ago

PSA Cert Verification still not showing "WHEN" the card was slabbed

very good point Robert it is just we do not know what the before was only the after and it is sad because it is a beautiful card and there is a big drop in value from a 7 or 5 to now

I wouldn’t find that surprising in the least.

Many years ago, I submitted a beautiful OJ of Hugh Duffy to SGC, fully expecting a 6 or even a 7. I picked up the card at their old NJ HQ and was horrified that there was a huge crease across the middle that, believe me, was not there before and the card had graded a 1. I sat down with the head grader at the time and came close to acting like George Brett storming out of the dugout to check that pine tarred bat. The best they offered me was credit for future grading. I am still pissed off.

Sold for $4800. How does that compare to other recent sales with that grade?

VCP has the average price for a PSA 5 as $5819. $4800 is around the average for a PSA 4.0 or PSA 4.5.
