Sets that aren't supposed to be that tough but are to you

I was just wondering if any of you have run across a set which is not supposed to be that tough according to all the books, etc. but you can't find them anywhere. In my case it is the 1914 Zeenut set. Now I realize all Zeenuts sets are not plentiful but I see many more 1911, 1912 and 1913s which are supposed to be tough and even some 1918s which are supposed to be incredibly rare, but I rarely see a 1914 which is supposed to be fairly plentiful among the early Zeenut sets. These are the dark gray and white cards. Just don't see them....

I'm not sure if you can relate since you have millions of them, but I found completing the E94 set, which I just finished off at the National, to be much tougher than I expected. I knew it would be hard, but I did not think the last few would be that hard.

I don't watch for Zeenuts specifically but I do track most that go to public sale. It does seem like there are very few of the 1914's being sold....also, 1920, 1921 and 1922 seem to be pretty scarce....

Not sure if this qualifies but I am attempting to complete a T-207 Red Sox subset and have been looking for the same 3-4 cards for sometime. Finally found Nunamaker at the National but Engle and Hageman are super tough and I recently found out a collector with the same surname as Hageman (not sure if related) has hoarded about 20 or so copies. More power to him but I would love to find just one copy.

Also, to me, the E-96 set is tough to find. More difficult then the E-94 and E-97 IMO. I know there was thread recently about Caramel scarcity and I would would put E-96 down the list a little more.

I"m having a tough time with '33 Sport Kings. Didn't think it would be too tough for a mid grade set, but 3 years in and I"m still short a dozen.
Down to the last dozen on the '41 Goudey set in all 4 colors as well. No reason as to the ones I'm missing either, just seems to be random.

for me it was the Salutation Exhibit set. I started the set from cards purchased at a penny arcade a LONG time ago. I finished it about a year ago after five years of hunting card shows and the net. It's not hard to separate the real deal from '70s and '80s reprints, but finding cards like Buck Newson (sic), Gabby Hartnett, and Earl Averill in decent condition was much harder than I thought it would be. And then there's Johnny Rizzo, who, despite PSAs price guide, was nearly impossible to find. I have one sorry example that seems to have been reassembled from shredder material.

I agree with Jason L. T207 Ward Miller and Vic Saier are impossible. I have seen Saier once and It was trimmed and have never seen the Miller card.

I was working the Salutations Exhibit set at the National and was surprised how few cards were available from the tougher aspects of the issue. I found about 5 variations, with the only one of note being the Lombardi. Some fool wanted $250 for it in poor; found a second one a few hours before I left for $50 in better shape.

The PC backed set also gives me fits, esp. the silhouette cards. I was really pleased to knock off the Gehrig this year.

Then again, if we wanted easy we could collect 1988 Topps...
