Default Utah Parks Baseball Find

Posted By: Shawn

About six years ago I worked for Zion National Park, and was asked to help demo a building owned by the Union Pacific Railroad. The Building was actually a shop for repairing "touring cars" owned by UPRR that carried tourists to the National Parks. When my boss and I arrived at the shop I could not believe what I was seeing. The shop (more like a train depot) was full of stuff from the early 1900s to today. Needless to say but I have many collectibles from the shop. My boss actually found the bats and gloves you see below, but was nice enough to split it up with me. He found a large duffel bag stuffed under a large metal shelf of which contained at least again as many gloves and bats as you see below and a catchers mask and pads. As you can see, two of the gloves have UTP stitch onto them(Utah Parks and Rec). The bats have Hillerich and Bradsby and Wilson on them (softball). The gloves are Nokona, Goldsmith, Wilson and Rawlings. Utah Parks And Recreation ran Zion, Bryce and Grand Canyon for awhile. I do not know much about these items and I do not think they have much value, but I think its a really neat "free" find. I am guessing these are from the mid 1940s?

Your dating of the gloves is correct and you have some nice brands there. Value will depend on several factors. Are they endorsed and by whom, condition (i.e. cracking, writting with ink, holes, cloth label in tact, etc), quality (heavy leather, leather piping, adult size). You should be able to see the player endorsement if there is one in the palm or on the pinky. There should also be a model# in the heal of the glove. Post the pertinent info for each and we can give you a potential value.

These are all pretty common gloves, but still nice and collectible. Nokona has a big following. Assuming all are in excellent condition, here are some reasonable expectations for resale.

1. Nokona
genuine cowhide
Tony York ?
G12 or C12 or 012

$45-$65

2. Nokona
Genuine Cowhide
Dick Williams
1106

$40-$50

3. Rawlings
Professional Model
Bob Bo Bowman ?
Floating Heel
G490

$40-$50

4. Wilson
Made in USA
Jerry or Terry Moore
645 or G45

$60-$70

5. Goldsmith
Jimmy Coron ??
G20

Don't know the name but probably $45ish

Wow! Mike, I did not think they were worth that much... I know condition is still a factor, but that is pretty cool. I figured out the player on the Goldsmith: Jimmy Brown... Do not know if that changes anything. Thanks again for the input!

Jimmy Brown is $35-$45

Yep, condition is everything. If the signatures are tough to see, if the piping is poor, if there is ANY ink, holes, or missing cloth tags the price will drop at least 40-50%.
