Default 1933 Goudeys

I see a lot of 33 Goudey singles,especially Stars,going for
"Crazy Money".What would a set 239 card,no "Lajoie",
be worth nowadays? VG----EX
Thanks,
Ben

A raw set, no Laj, in that grade....I’m guessing the $40k range.

Just looked at the most recently sold PSA graded cards on Ebay out of curiosity from the graded perspective:

VG-EX 4 Vance #2 $480
VG 3 Foxx #29 $625
VG-EX 4 Frisch #49 $252
VG 3 Ruth #53 $9,000
VG-EX 4 Cochrane #76 $308
VG-EX 4 Speaker #89 $425
VG-EX 4 Gehrig #92 $4,755
VG-EX 4 Ruth #93 $11,500
VG-EX 4 Hornsby #119 $675
G 2 Ott #127 $240
VG-EX 4 Ruth #144 $13,499
VG-EX 4 Foxx #154 $855
VG-EX 4 Berg #158 $525
VG-EX 4 Gehrig #160 $4,950
VG-EX 4 Ruth #181 $13,311
VG-EX 4 Hornsby #188 $441
VG 3 Ott #207 $335
VG-EX 4 Wilson #211 $475
VG-EX 4 Gehringer #222 $468
VG-EX 4 Dean #223 $625

Add that snapshot of 20 of the better cards and you get $63,744 (sure I missed some and hopefully I typed them right) Of course the Ruth cards will whammy you the most totaling up to over $40,000

Figure $150 for the rest of your HOFers (don't want to check the whole set ) so let's just say the remainder after the above list leaves you around $2,000(probably more)

Call your commons about $60 so let's say $12,000 or so

So my guess would be around 65k in the graded VG-EX range give or take(plus any tax/shipping/fees) and trending up

Just for fun, a VG 3 Lajoie sold this summer for $43,200, so roughly 110k for a truly complete set. 125k+ if the Lajoie was a 4?

I think you're probably still selling it short. I contemplated a PSA 4 set, but based on my math you're spending $65k for Ruths alone ($20k for the yellow, $15k apiece for the others. A pair of Gehrigs will add another $15k. Two Foxx's will add $8k. $2k apiece for the Otts

You'll run $1k apiece for the bigger HOFers (Vance, Dean, Hornsby X2, Speaker, Gehringer, Grove etc.) A few of the commons will be in the same ballpark (Berg, Bengough). Let's call it $10k for the big name HOFers

Lower tier HOFers are in the $600-750 range (Lundgren, Hoyt, Hubbell, etc.). If there are 20 low tier HOFers, you're adding $12k-15k.

I think $300 is probably closer to the average price for the true common cards. It we say there are 200 commons, that puts you at $60k for commons alone.

All in, by my math, a PSA 4 graded set will be somewhere around $175k, without Lajoie. Obviously deals can be found, but I don't think I'm too far out of line.

This has always been my favorite set - the bold colors and star power is incredible!! My set is in the 2.5 to 3 range overall and the good thing is I picked up most of them 20 plus years ago and have just been watching them increase in value. My Lajoie(GAI 1) isn't the greatest, but who cares. I had SGC grade the majority of the set for $5/card a few years back!!! My how times have changed. Hats off to a great set!!!

the Ruth has increased a lot lately, with the last sell of a PSA 5 going for over 35k on the #53. The goudey Ruths are showing no signs of slowing down either.

If I'm short, you're on the moon. Just having fun. I just took prices from most recent sales, not the lowest, and
was only looking at hammer price, so it was definitely low. The VCP is probably the most accurate in that 90k range as a good average. If you know of a good outlet to sell commons for $300 a pop let me know. I'll start buying them by the tractor trailer full.
