Default Cabinet Photo Identification

Hey Guys,

Any thoughts on the team and year of this photo? It resembles sone of the early Boston uniforms but not matching exactly to any that I have come across. Thanks for your insight!

Taking a photo with a cameraphone at a 30º angle does not help. It needs to be done straight down and zoomed in on the image.

My first question is where did you find it? Figuring out who the photographer is would also give a clue. They look like high school or college. Some college teams have long histories. Bowdoin College has had a team since 1867. They had no official manager until 1903. Brown University has also been around since the 1860's. The first perfect game in ML history was thrown by a Brown alum - J. Lee Richmond in 1880 for Worcester. They also produced the first Black play to play in the majors - William Edward White 1879 Providence Grays.

I picked it up at a local auction here in Central Illinois. The auction house listed it as Boston Bean Eaters but I rejected that notion before bidding. It looks like it could almost be the stairs of a college hall where it was photographed. Bradley had a college baseball team as far back as the 19th century. The signature looks like “Brugley” to me.
