1951 Topps Red Back Pack Opening

A couple of months ago I bought an unopened pack of 51 Topps. My son and I opened it up this afternoon, and here's a video.

Mike--thanks for sharing. I just can not bring myself to open old packs. For me the mystery of what could be in there seems preferable to what likely is in there.

Are you and your son collecting the set ?

I can't tell if the Stephens has a a dingier back vs. the whiter back of the other card but if so it, it just confirms my thoughts of Topps reissung these in 1952 in these packs and co-mingling returns or unsold product with both Red Back press runs possible in the same pack.

Caramel in 1951 when issued as Baseball Candy. No confection at all for the Doubles rewrap/reissue on 1952 as Topps was trying to skirt Bowman's exclusive on cards with candy/gum in the packs.

Not sure if this is off topic, but the YouTube video that auto-followed the '51 Red Back pack featured a couple of guys opening a modern slickly packaged box of eight 1955 Bowman cards priced at forty bucks. Strongly implied that the cards were randomly inserted, but, hey, the first seven maybe so, even though two umps and five commons, albeit in excellent to near mint condition. The eighth randomly selected card was a mostly mint Mays with a slight stain on the back...hmm. I wonder if the guys in the video were somehow involved in the sales of the forty buck lots?

A mid-series Mays and high number umps in the same pack? Fake all the way, vintage or not.

Right, Dave, but if you watch the video, these guys are opening a recently boxed lot, not a pack from 1955. And I didn't even consider the cards' legitimacy. Apparently, the eight card lot is one of forty lots selling at 100 bucks each. The forty lots would make up a complete broken set for a total of four grand. The box opening they post to YouTube naturally contains the juiciest haul - the two umps and the Mays kicker, all in EX - MT condition. Seemingly only in the 1951 5 and 10 cent packs, as the 52 Doubles reissue is just two cards. I can't say I've heard of them being attached in the 52 packs but it's possible. Some Blue Back Doubles packs also exist.

I only realized that after my initial post and then I edited it, simultaneously making it easier and harder to understand at the same time - d'oh! Scam city on these it seems.
