Default 1985 Subway Discs Master Checklist

I never paid much attention to 1985 Subway Discs, I just figured that they were identical to 1985 Thom McAn Discs except they were blank backed and had 36 discs rather the 46 in the 1985 Thom McAn set, minus the 10 players from Puerto Rico. I recently bought a lot of 10 Subway discs on eBay that was listed incorrectly as Thom McAn discs to get the Ryne Sandberg, but I noticed something on 3 of the other discs that was peculiar. The Quisenberry is green, the Sutter is pink, and the Wilson is red, while the Thom McAn Quisenberry is pink and the Thom McAn Sutter and Wilson are green. That means there at least 3 of the Subway discs that are different from the McAn discs on the front, more than likely more. I have also read that 1985 Subway discs are much more plentiful than 1985 Thom McAn discs, but I believe the opposite is true. I don't doubt that the McAn discs are more popular and sought after than the Subway discs, but the master checklist of the Thom McAn is well established with all of the discs and variations documented several times over. There are some Subway discs that as far as I know have yet to be documented and the only color variations that have been documented are the Ripken and Leonard discs, both blue and yellow. If the PSA population is to be trusted that confirms the existence of 24 of the discs, and other than Carew, Carlton, Ripken, Schmidt, and Seaver all of them have a population of 2 or less. Taking into account those 24 and the ones that I have, these have not been documented, Cooper, Cowens, Gossage, Guidry, Hargrove, and Zahn. I know that another Net54 member had a similar thread but it has been dormant for nearly six years. If anyone can supply a scan of Cooper, Cowens, Gossage, Guidry, Hargrove, and Zahn, show a scan of any Subway disc that is a different color than their Thom McAn counterpart other than Quisenberry, Sutter, and Wilson, or has scans of two color variation discs other than Leonard and Ripken please do.

While I do know that the yellow Ripken "Subway" disc is fairly easy to locate, conversely the ThomMcAn disc in that color variation is VERY difficult to find..My point is could there be undocumented Thom McAn discs of Quisenberry/Green; Sutter/Pink & Wilson//Red?:

Hi Cliff, nothing to add on my front unfortunately. Here are the Subway discs I possess. Looks like all of mine are the same colors you already have listed. Note, Subway discs are blank backed but still have the 1985 copyright on front right side. I would be willing to trade any of mine for the Guerrero I’m missing to complete my team set.

Default 1985 Subway vs Thom McAns

Cliff I own the PSA subway set but only have about 24 of them.
https://www.psacard.com/psasetregist...ay-discs/15637

I have Ripken (B & Y), Sutter (Grn & Purple) and Valenzuela (B & Y) in double colors.

For some reason PSA has a 46 card check list, but I agree that the Latin players dont exist (and they never graded any).

The Lemke checklist includes Brett which I also do not think exists.

I think your Quis in grn means that there is a Quis in green for the Thom McAn set that hasnt showed up yet. My Thom McAn set has 8 double color players and I think there could be a few more. Those are also all shown in my set https://www.psacard.com/psasetregist...timeset/205423

Fantastic! Now it can be confirmed what colors the Buckner, Guerrero, Orosco, Ray, Walker, and Winfield are, and there are color variations for Leonard, Ripken, Sutter, Valenzuela. I have a yellow Leonard to confirm it exists. Not to confuse things, but there is a red 1985 Thom McAn Benny Ayala currently in a lot on eBay that confirms that there is a color variation to go along with your orange 1985 Thom McAn Benny Ayala.

I have a yellow Bell and a green Seaver. I have owned three pink Winfields and have never seen another color for him.

Returning to where I left off in my old thread (I can't believe I left that idle for 6 years!), I'm trying to determine when these were originally catalogued. I've found references to the set as far back as October 1997, but am still searching. They were not included in the 1990 Beckett Alphabetical.

Don't ask me when we (I) added this set to the Beckett Data Base but it was obviously way after 1990. Interestingly, I just checked and the Beckett DB has 46 discs listed but not the last couple which means I either screwed up and missed the last couple of discs of the verification I had was incomplete.

Based on what I'm seeing -- a 50 disc set would not surprise me. And since one the Thom McAn blurb mentions a 10 disc set with purchase, I feel even stronger than it's a 50-disc set.

Not surprisingly, there is a color variation on the 1985 Subway Cesar Cedeno disc just like there are on the 1985 Thom McAn Cesar Cedeno discs, red and green that I just found out about. I believe there will eventually be more color variations found.

Not sure if you need these pics, but I just picked up a Wilson Green and a Quisenberry Pink.

Your scans are not showing up on my phone, but if you have Quisenberry-Pink with a blank back and Wilson-Green with a blank back that would be very big news concerning the 1985 Subway checklist.

I talked to someone on Trading Card DataBase that provided scans for a 1985 Subway Discs Ron Guidry and he confirmed to me that he owns one, so that leaves Cooper, Cowens, Gossage, Hargrove, and Zahn to be confirmed.

I ran across a completed eBay sale of a 1985 Subway Geoff Zahn (Orange) that I unfortunately missed on, hopefully ArmourPhil won it. This confirms it exists.

Cliff, I just came across this post. I gather the way to tell it is a Subway disc is the 1985 date and the blank back? I don't have any but it gives me something else to look for. Thanks.

Luckily the seller had another copy of the 85 Subway Orange Geoff Zahn and I can confirm it exists after receiving it today.

A seller on eBay listed a 1985 Subway Disc lot and it has previously undocumented discs of Al Cowens (Blue) and Mike Hargrove (Green) so that means the only 1985 Subway Discs I have yet to see proof of in any color are Cecil Cooper and Rich Gossage, although one of the Trading Card Data Base moderators told me that he has copies of both Cecil Cooper color variations Subway Discs.

I had to pay a ridiculous price to get him to sell just the Cowens, Hargrove, and Zahn out of the lot but I figured I would never get them otherwise. The Zahn is an upgrade.
