Default John Hirschbeck memorabilia

This article by Ken Rosenthal about umpire John Hirschbeck, his late son, and his memorabilia collection is the single best baseball article I have read in many years. Have a tissue handy, but this shows you a side to baseball I've certainly never seen before. Assume it's behind a paywall. If you are not a subscriber, this article alone is worth a trial subscription. If there was a pulitizer for short form sports articles this would be in the running. Tremendous.

Read that this a.m. You're right, it's worth the sub cost (The Athletic is terrific, period).
