Default T206 raw auction, absolute mayhem

there were a lot of T206 raws auction on Ebay starting an hour ago. 2-3s (at best) common players/common backs going from $60-80 and even higher. there were auctions ending every 20 seconds, lots of bidding into the wire. Shill bidding? maybe. who knows. there might be other parts of the market crashing, but T206 is not one of them. Good luck collecting the Monster these days. It will cost you $15-20k to get 300 commons.

Talking about the GMC auction of T206s?

Prices were strong on commons, yes. But I found 4 cards to scoop that I didn't think were too painful: horizontal Murphy, a Polar Bear Pirate, a nice OMSL and the Tolstoi Duffy.

yes. I think commons are a premium to slabs. I guess some collectors do not want hundreds of commons stacked up to a ceiling

Greg Morris auctions get TONS of eyes because he has 300k positive feedback and has 30,000+ auctions running at any one time. He's also one of the best in the business in terms of putting up quality, consistent scans of the front/back of every card and giving fairly accurate grades.

No one is questioning the venue. Just noting that $80 for common backs that would grade a 2 is a pretty expensive haul.

Fridays are their lower condition auctions. I used to be able to get some cards pretty cheap. Not so much any more. I won 4 cards tonight Out of maybe 150 bids. Prices lately for the beater cards have been crazy.

I will sometimes overbid on cards i need to finish out sets. I trust their grading. I’m probably not the only one.

Raw cards from the 50s and 60s that he lists as near mint have been crazy lately.

their grading is fairly accurate, but you are still talking a 50/50 chance of hitting that grade in my experience.

Agree. And with cost and hassle of grading I’m not buying at anywhere near those prices.
