Default SOLD: 1930s or 1940s New York Yankees Equipment Trunk

Owner is asking SOLD

PM with any questions/requests/offers. Happy to provide additional hi-res photos. I also have further information and photos in a Word document that I can email.

The trunk is in southeast Michigan and can be picked up if desired. Local delivery may be possible.

Other Yankee Stadium items to follow. Ticket Booth and Ticket Bin are already posted.

Thanks, Kevin

This is a vintage New York Yankees travelling trunk. It measures approximately 44” x 53” x 24” (width/height/depth). It dates between 1935 and 1940s, built by the Priesmeyer Brothers Trunk Company of Saint Louis, Missouri. The company made custom travel trunks for “professional baseball players and team personnel.”

The trunk is in overall very good condition. The original fabric--including its leather handles--appears intact. There are several layers of stenciling, possibly including traces of the original stenciling, which may help to date the trunk. Similar trunks and stenciling can be photo-matched to at least the early 1940s.

The trunk shows lighter wear and tear than comparable trunks from the era. The main issue of condition is the covering material. It has split in a number of areas where rivets or hardware hold it in place. All the covering is present, but the split areas indicate some shrinkage.

There are remnants of a shipping label on the left side of the trunk. It was shipped from Yankee Stadium in the Bronx to Fort Lauderdale Stadium, the Yankees’ home for spring training. The label is addressed to Don H. Seger, the Yankees Assistant Trainer from 1962 until 1969. There are also two "Withers Van Lines" numbered shipping tags. Withers was a Miami-based moving company.
