Default Premium card(s) question

Posted By: ms4epg1

Hi! I'm new to this forum, but not to forums. One of my younger friend collectors pointed me to some other forum, but all they cared about was game-used cards, autographed rookies, shiny auto/GU cards, and mojo (whatever that is). Nobody seemed interested in the REAL stuff. One of the members of that forum pointed to this site. Looks like I'm home.

Anyways, I started collecting back in 1992 and stopped in 1999 when the market became saturated with those damned inserts. Utterly futile. Six years later, my interest piqued again and this time I am going to do it RIGHT. The closest I have to vintage is a 1962 Maris and a couple of 1973 Nolan Ryans. I hope to one day own an original 1887 Allen & Ginter Cap Anson and King Kelly. Absolute works of art. They don't have to be perfect, just unaltered and authentic. Sorry for babbling on so much. On to my question....

Is there any card out there that is so well known 'outside' the hobby that it has attracted the interest of people who buy things like classic cars, football teams, diamonds, and such? Just curious because this seems like a very well-knowledged group.

Thanx.

The t206 Honus Wagner card is probably the only one. When major collections go to big auction houses like Christies, etc, they bring in a lot of new money that wouldn't otherwise be spent on cards and memorabilia. This tends to go towards the game used stuff rather than cards. Anything Ruth will generally do well with the non-baseball collecting public. Beyond that, it's all about if they've heard about Cobb, Gehrig etc if they have any interest in those.

I've just reached Upper Lower Class. I am now officially a babe magnet for poor chicks.
