Default Ennui Regarding The Blimp

Now a fixture at most televised major sporting events.

What does it cost to fly a blimp over a stadium for three hours?

Don't you enjoy the blimp cam shots over domed stadia?

By now we all know what most of the stadia look like from three thousand feet.

In your opinion what is added to the coverage of the game?

Are the blimp pilots watching the game on TV or must they use binoculars.

Are the blimp's days numbered with the advent of the drone?

Would you miss the blimp if it wasn't there? Would you even notice and tell the wife, "Honey, there's no blimp at Dodger Stadium."

Let's here your bleeping blimp comments.

Leon, moving this to the main board is okay with me.

With the overwhelming response I think it deserves the section it's in. As for blimps, since I barely watch any sports so it doesn't really matter to me. I would think it's not a cheap endeavor to fly one.

Default Blimps

Does Blimpie sponsor a blimp, and if not , why not ? Is there a difference between a blimp and a Zeppelin ? Has there ever been a great Blimp disaster....beside the one in Black Sunday ? Do blimps carry flotation devices ? Do blimps float ?

I once flew the Fuji blimp over Las Vegas. One of the more fun things I ever did.

Also, I used to live in Indianapolis. There were usually 5-6 different blimps parked at the airport each May for the race. Neat to see them all next to each other on the drive home.

I don't know if they do, but I don't think so.
I have no idea why not, it seems like a perfect ad gimmick for them.

YES! A blimp is basically a big balloon, a zeppelin is a Dirigible - it has a structure usually inside it. (And technically a Zeppelin can only be made by the Zeppelin company - Or Jimmy Page.)

Several.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_airship_accidents
That includes blimps, Zeppelins, and a few miscellaneous other sorts of airships.

Most of the recent ones involving blimps have led to no injuries.
My favorite from the list..........
4 May 2012: An Israeli spy blimp crashed when a crop duster struck the blimp's side.

The crop duster pilot now works for a grading company which will remain unnamed.
(Seriously, how oblivious does someone have to be to NOT see a blimp right where they're going to be flying a plane it's not like blimps are small or fast. )

If you have a favorite blimp, let's see it. This thread needs some gas.

I Have an official Captain's license to fly the Goodyear Blimp, which I did back in the '70's out of Houston under Capt Larry Chambers. Larry was for many years the one who flew the Houston-based blimp over sporting events all over the country.

Seeing the bulbous portion on the bottom of the blimp, reminds me of a favorite movie line, "It's not a tuma!"
