Default Greg Lindberg (Beckett) gets 7 years

Not sure Greg Lingberg is a house hold name in the baseball card market. But here are some interesting articles to read. Im sure some members know more about him than I do.

For your reading pleasure. To give a little more background, Greg is the founder of Global Growth LLC, the parent company of Beckett media.

Though the case is probably not directly related to Beckett, and something they may have done or tried to do in the hobby that was wrong/illegal, the fact that the owner of their parent company would do something illegal in regard to one of his other companies clearly shows he likely wouldn't have any reservations about doing something illegal in regard to the hobby, via Beckett, if it was to his or the company's financial gain either. Leopards typically do not ever change their spots.

Based on his charges, I think he got off way too easy.

A few hundred grand in political bribes gets you 7 years. A few hundred grand in fraud and shill bidding gets you 20 months. What a country.

Take a look at the last story link in post #2. It says he was indicted on a $2 BILLION dollar of insurance fraud, affecting thousands of people. Seven years sounds pretty light to me. The bribery was apparently just a part of the overall charges against him.

Just to provide further clarification, there are two different sets of charges.

Mr. Lindberg was convicted in March 2020 of conspircy and bribery charges stemming from trying to bribe the NC insurance commissioner (https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/found...tant-convicted). He was sentenced to 87 months. In June 2022, that conviction was thrown out on appeal due to the trial judge giving wrong instructions to the jury. A retrial is still pending.

Yesterday, Mr. Lindberg was indicated on a 2 billion dollar fraud scheme related to the financial investing of his insurance companies. This is a new set of charges. He could face up to 20 years for these charges according to the DOJ linked in post #2.

As Bob stated, none of these charges are directly related to Beckett as far as I am aware other than Mr. Lindberg's group being the owner of Beckett.

They still need to throw the book at this guy, and make sure he's removed from having anything to do with Beckett going forward, and pretty much anything else. Sounds a bit like another Bernie Madoff. Lock him up and throw away the key if it was up to me.
