Pre-War Baseball Cards in the Movies

I was watching the movie Memphis Belle the other night and one of the crew members had a small stack of 1939/40 Playballs. Can you think of any other movies that featured Pre-War cards. |

There was a long-running sitcom recently that featured wall displays of prewar, but the name eludes me. |

My nephews were watching one of the Stuart Little movies one time and I saw a 1954 Bowman Willie Mays in Stuart's "home." |

Not quite baseball cards, but in the wonderful 1947 film "Life with Father", starring William Powell and a teenage Elizabeth Taylor, and set in 1880's New York, Powell's two young sons are reading the newspaper and one blurts out "the Giants won and Ewing hit a home run." Find another movie that mentions Buck Ewing by name. |

As Goonies continues to be one of my favorite movies, I want to point out that the card featured in it is actually the 1976 Topps all-time all star card although the movies purports it to be from the 1930's. |

In various Seinfeld episodes I think I've seen both framed 1934 Goudey reprints as well as N162 reprints, but they are shot from far away so I can't be certain. But the T205's are definite. |

In the 1999 dud movie "Blast from the Past" starring Brendan Fraser I believe he produces a stack of 1933 and 1934 Goudey which included a Hornsby if memory serves me correctly. I also seem to recall in the early 1980s the television show "Hart to Hart" had a whole episode about baseball cards. |

If were going to include 50's & 60's cards. I remember a Star Trek Episode or Movie where a villian had a bunch of ancient artifacts and one of them was a 1962 Maris or a Maris rookie, I can remember. Maybe theres a Trekkie on the board that remembers. |

The cards young Lou is trading is def. NOT t206's. If you look real close they appear to be M's. He says he has players that are not in that set but that is def what they are. Also, Lous woulda been about 13 in that scene so there ya go. |

Don't forget "League of Our Own" when Tom Hanks was asked to sign the baseball card that I remember looking like the 1934 Goudey Jimmy Foxx (although he was Jimmy Dugan in the movie?). |

Dead hubby (vigo mortgenson) leaves clues written on baseball cards (gasp!) from the 60s that leads wife (andy mcdowell) on a trail around the planet. There's one scene (that I instintively winced at while watching) where, after figuring out the clue on the card, she rips it up and throws it in the trash. |

I know, but the cards he shows are like m101-4's. It is possible he has a combination, or the likely explanation is that the movie's creators had no idea what they were doing. |

its def NOT t206's cause you can actualyl see the cards if you look real close. They are def. m's 100% no doubt about it. He mentions random players because that is in the scipt and has no connection to the cards that are barely shown (I actualyl paused it and stuck my head up to the tv to determine they were m's that the actor is actually holding. What they have on film and what they wrote in the script are two different things all together. |
