Hake’s Americana & Collectibles Auction #208 Now Online And Open For Bidding at

Hake's has been the premier source for Pop Culture and Americana since 1967 and in recent years has offered some of the rarest and most sought after baseball items including those pertaining to the Cuban and Negro Leagues.

Hake's is in the midst of its 208th auction which closes March 19-21, 2013. Participation is online via Hake’s website - with real time bidding or by using our 400+ page gorgeous full color catalog of over 3,000 items in 200+ collecting categories.

The current auction is once again highlighted by baseball items from the Richard Merkin Collection. In a recent auction, the 1910 Punch Cigarros “Pop” Lloyd baseball card from this collection sold for a world record price of $94,875.

Auction #208 has more baseball cards, designated by SGC with “The Richard Merkin” pedigree. This include examples from the following sets: 1909 Cabanas (including Mesa, Molina and Almeida), 1910 Punch Cigarros, 1923-24 Billiken (including Frank Duncan), 1923-24 Tomas Gutierrez (including Dobie Moore and Jesse Hubbard), 1923-24 Nacionales, 1924-25 Agulitas (including Dick Lundy), 1946-47 Fotos (including Dihigo), 1948 Kellogg’s Cuban Postcard set.

Other card highlights include a 1945-46 Caramelo Deportivo Cuban League complete album with Dihigo, Dandridge and others and an uncatalogued 1953-54 Venezulean complete card album with Max Manning, Ray Brown, Willard Brown and others.

Other stand-out items (many from the Richard Merkin Collection) include: New Britain 1908 postcard with four Cuban HOF members; Concordia Eagles c. 1934 team photo with Dihigo and Oms; a Winter League photo from the 1930s featuring Satchel Paige; Philadelphia Giants c. 1907 Negro League team photo with Sol White and Bruce Petway; Mohawk Giants 1913 Negro League team postcard; Negro League photographic montage with Louis Santop, Pop Lloyd, Rube Foster, John Donaldson, Bruce Petway, Spottswood Poles, and many others; Puerto Rican sports magazine from 1944 with Paige and Josh Gibson cover article; 1955 Willie Mays All-Stars barnstorming team photo; late 1800s tintypes; Louis Sockalexis postcard; Honus Wagner 1911 postcard; Dizzy Dean boxed watch; Mickey Mantle batting practice set; rare/scarce pin back buttons for: Babe Ruth, Bucky Crouse, Bob Feller, Satchel Paige, Roy Campanella, Hank Bauer and more.

Autographed items authenticated by JSA and/or PSA include: signed bats, balls, photos, prints and books for the likes of Ted Williams, Connie Mack, Casey Stengel, Babe Herman, Paul Waner, George Sisler, Rogers Hornsby, the first Commissioner of Baseball Kenesaw Mountain Landis, Fred Merkle, Chief Bender, Ernie Lombardi, Joe DiMaggio, Yogi Berra, Mickey Mantle, Billy Martin, Hank Aaron, Reggie Jackson, Mike Schmidt, Eddie Mathews, Willie McCovey, Harmon Killebrew, Frank Robinson and others.
