Default 1963 Pepsi - Colt .45s

An unbelievably gorgeous set, and kinda/sorta attainable in high enough grade for all but the Warwick. That one will cost you. I think I have the second-highest graded of that card, and I hate buying PSA cards. "I saw it in the window, and just couldn't resist," as Scarlett said.

Anyone on here actually seen, with their own eyeballs, the Bateman card? I did at the National in 2018, I think it was literally the last table I stopped at on my way out of the National, to Lyft to the airport.

I remember thinking, ". . . Dude has a Texas Chaparrals jersey? That's pretty random. Maybe he'll have a Bateman."

Now, I didn't really believe he would, but I *did* say that to myself. Well, damn if he didn't. It had the schedule clipped off, as I've heard every one of the 18 or so verified copies all have. I may be high on that number. But he had one in a PSA holder.

Anyone else seen a Bateman? Anyone also broken the only rule I really try to keep? "Don't start a set you know you can't finish." I'm pretty strict on "Master Set" so the Bateman card is a requirement.

Any input, much appreciated!
Chuck

I hadn't seen the full panel Bateman, didn't know it existed, thanks for the info. Listed as "possibly unique" . . . about as much a soft-sell as I can recall in an auction book.

The entire story, at least as much as the author knew, is here. Pretty interesting, if you find ultra-obscure one-city issue cards interesting.

Love this set. Don't expect to ever own a Bateman but always enjoy picking up another hit to my set. Mine aren't high grade but I do have this very cool "Rusty" Rusty Staub example.

Hi Chuck. Not only have I seen on, but I own one. Last I looked, it is the only once graded by SGC. It graded authentic.

I believe the full panel Bateman was an REA auction win a year or so ago.

Would you mind sharing the details? Where, when, from whom, how much?? Did you submit it for grading? So very cool.

Thank you, I'm usually adding to 15-20 sets at a time, normally very slowly for each set so I just keep a lot of them going. I take a looooong time to complete a set lol.

Hi Chuck,

I won my Bateman on a smaller auction 4-5 years ago. I will say that I was fortunate in that I didn't pay as much as recent listings found on the major auction sites. I also won a similar cut Warwick from than auction. I submitted both to SCG and both received the authentic grading. I really admire the full card with panel Warwick that you have. I am still looking for a full panel Warwick card for my collection.

Here are the links from the last four auctions that I watched that had an available Bateman.

This first one is from an auction run by Heritage in November 2018. This is the full panel, PSA 1, that Larry mentioned. It sold for $20,400 (including buyers premium). It appears that the winner was wanting to then sell the card for $30,600.

The next three are from REA auctions:
the first one is a hand cut, PSA authentic, that sold for $8,700. This auction was held during the summer of 2020.

The next is from a fall 2018 auction that is hand cut, PSA authentic, and sold for $12,000

The last is from the spring 2018 and is hand cut, PSA authentic. $It sold for $ 15,600

Have you had a chance to read this 2014 article by Charles Harrison? He knows of 13 existing Bateman's. I have been in contact with Charlie (he lives in the greater Houston area, as do I). I had sent a scan of my card to him and he feels the one I have is card #14 (because my card had some staining along the bottom and the other 13 do not have any staining's).

Have you been able to find the Lillis card? I was able to win a full panel ~8 years ago from Heritage.
