In 1933 Joe DiMaggio played in 187 games and had 762 at bats for San Francisco. He had 1 hit in 1932 and 259 in 1933 - that has to be some sort of improvement record. |

Yeah, he made it to the Show; but only because the incomparable Augie Galan pushed him to the outfield. Even the Clipper couldn't displace Augie at short. Galan had 265 hits in 1933, leading the league in runs (164) and triples (22). He also smacked 51 doubles and drove in 102 runs, besting Joe's average by sixteen points. Not bad for a guy less than six feet tall and a shade over 160 pounds. |
