It came IBC-DHL, and I had to sign for it (I've never bid in a Sotheby's auction). Nice Arthur Ashe stuff. Silly complete run of LaKERS' CHAMPIONSHIP RINGS WITH NO NAME--WINNER IS SUPPOSED TO HAVE his own NAME ENGRAVED ON EACH (FREE). No 19th century stuff. Neat Lefty Grove ring, shows wear. Babe Ruth bat from 1917-21, authenticated by Bushing, est. price 200,000--+++. Some fine E cards, but in large bunches. Program from Cy Young's first perfect game. |

Did you happen to notice the 1916 Zeenut Jimmy Claxton? First time I've seen that one up for auction, I think. Or did Lew have one a few years ago? |

Is it just the brilliant sunshine in Vancouver affecting my computer screen, or are the Sotheby images somewhat overexposed? |

Ben, I have to agree with the Yawn!! on the Wagner. Also on the CJ Cobb and Jax. It seems every major auction has these cards. I am far more impressed by the Zeenuts and Obaks than any of those cards. Even a beat of 1914 CJ MAtty would be impressive. Just goes to show how tough that card really is and just how common high grade examples of CJ Cobb and Jax are. |

sheet for Old Judge, not an uncut Old Judge sheet. There's also a N28 Anson, and a few other 19th century things, already mentioned. |

Ithink I'll wait to be told whether it's in the Sotheby's auction, since I don't seem to be very good at reading the catalogue. |

unless you see an item you just have to have, the sotheby's auctions are far different from our run of the mill vintage card auctions. if you thought the REA shipping was an issue(which was quickly resolved), sotheby's uses a shipping company to ship everything at highly inflated prices. plan ahead to have someone, anyone, pick up the item in person. this will save $100's on even a single slabbed card. |

I am guessing that is Hal's image of his own card, not one in the auction, unless I missed it flipping through the catalogue. |
