The back of the American Beauty Cobb is a dead giveaway of not being authentic. Also, the right side of the card appears to be altered.

I saw this "Cobb / AB 350" phony the other day; and, I emailed the seller. I don't think he (or she) wanted to hear my comments....since I didn't get a response yet.

Here's the link......

Wow, is that card rare!

Keeping in mind that the Cobb Bat on Shoulder was never produced with an American Beauty back of any kind.

And of course "Seller does not offer returns."

Surprisingly there are already 16 bids.

Reported. I would expect EBay to remove this one.

Default Hey Fred

This card is up to $305 now ! ! ! !

Can you imagine the surprise when, whoever wins it, submits it for grading.

But then....on the other hand, TPG's have graded T206's with impossible backs many times before.

The worst example of this is the Joe Doyle N.Y. Nat'l with a POLAR BEAR back.

Out of curiosity, how do you know for certain that no Cobb Bat on Shoulders were produced with American Beauty backs? Is there a record of what was produced, or is it just that no one has ever seen one that was actually legitimate and authenticated?

There are a number of long term (30-40 years) collectors of T206's on this forum who have combined their experiences and expertise regarding the T206 structure.
I am currently putting together my 6th set of T206's since 1980. I have posted on this forum many times regarding the Series structures of the T206 cards......and,
how American Lithographic printed them.

The Cobb in question here was printed and issued in the 150 Series....circa Spring/Summer 1909.

The American Beauty 350 (with frame) cards were printed and issued in the 350-only Series....circa Summer 1910.

Therefore, there is NO WAY that this Cobb was printed with a American Beauty 350 (with frame) back.

Incidently, it appears that the seller has realized this, as this Cobb card has been removed from ebay.

Default Thank you Ted

Ted,

I appreciate your comments on the subject. There are so many topics on fraud, and many of the more experienced chime in and agree, but do not explain why. It is incredibly helpful when the more experience state their thoughts and then explain reasoning or what they are seeing. Thanks again, that was new info for me at least.
