Default PWCC Auctions & Re-Lists

Brent lists so many cards multiple times it seems odd. I understand when a card does poorly, perhaps the consignor requests the transaction be cancelled or whatever. But he's got a '56 Hodges that I bid 20-25% over the market on about a month ago and lost by a whole bunch. I figured "well, that card may have moved beyond me." It's back again? You'd think for $400 with shipping that would be a heck of a hammer for a '56 Hodges, no?
I guess the reason for posting this is that it makes bidding seem...pointless.
Wouldn't a reserve or BIN be the way to go if the bidding isn't honored?
Heck, I don't even mind the shilling! I'll only pay what I'll pay, regardless, but it's disappointing to go through the auction process repeatedly on the same damned card. Is this normal for you guys, or are these situations unique to me?

Edit: I should note that I used to repeatedly bid on the re-lists. I have become reluctant to do so now until I gain an understanding of how these "sales" seem...well...fake.

i find it a little disturbing that you understand if a card sells poorly a consignor can ask to have transaction cancelled?

This in of itself is quite disturbing to me.

I sold a 1965 Topps Frank Robinson with PWCC back in 2016. The purchaser never paid for it, so we re-listed it two months later. I'm not saying that happened here, but it does happen sometimes.

Oh...don't misunderstand me...I don't like or agree with it. I'm just trying to see it from all sides. Frankly, it pisses me off, but that doesn't mean I can't AT LEAST explain the behavior. The re-listing after it sets a record is harder to explain for me.

Perhaps that is what happened. It happens a fair amount on the cards that I bid on, Lol. This is the 3rd card I have been outbid on that has reappeared within a 2-month window. I have the pleasure of losing on the same card multiple times!

Peter,
I hope your Post Post Traumatic Stress Disorder hasn't taken too much out of your day and do wish you a complete recovery. The use of the word "disturbing" twice in regards to a post that you actually failed to address is....disturbing.
Phil

sorry, I didn't even see a question as I was so traumatized by your first statement. Might the answer be GREED?

Yeah, I agree with Pete's disturbance. This is not a thing. There are many valid criticisms of PWCC, but they do not cancel sales just because the consignor asks. If they did, their NEGs would be through the roof.

+1.... On a lighter note, I wish Leon could go back thru the archives in the last 10 years and see if there has been one, mind you ONLY one, single week without a thread pertaining PWCC or Rick Probstein.

Other thing that probably happens not infrequently is that a friend of the consignor accidentally wins the item and goes "oh, shit".

My understanding is that a non paying bidder is the most frequent cause of these relistings. I'm not sure if PWCC is the target of spam bidders but it's frustrating for consigners, bidders and AH across the board.

Good stuff guys. Thank you. It makes some better sense now. I like the scenario of the guys friend winning the card. "Oh shit!"
Made me laugh!
I suppose the best thing to do is just bid accordingly and see how it goes.

I've always been under the suspicion/impression many of these this bidders were shills FOR and BY PWCC or its associates. Thereby Showing huge ending prices, resulting in more consignments which never managed to reach the lofty heights. We DO know that many of "nice for the grade" cards were run up by card doctors knowing if they won, they could trim the card, grade and relist.

Cool story but I highly doubt that's happening on the business end of things. I'd be willing to guess that things have tightened up with the scrutiny and fallout from last year.
It's fun to dream up fascinating scenarios to create drama. But there's gotta be a limit.

How is lake Oswego these days? Are the black helicopters circling yet?

There vault is in Tigard right up the street from me. I consigned with them last year considering there close to me and I didn't have to worry about shipping despite all the drama I have read about them. Anyways I consigned a small group of cards and they all sold except for one; it had been relisted twice due to unpaid buyers. The third time it finally was paid for by a zero feedback buyer and there were only two bids where the other auctions had a lot of action. The auction results went $686 and $866 before finally selling for $610. I was a bit perturbed but I finally got a check. That instance was outed on here in the football pickup thread which was my big fear trying to sell a third time. Also PWCC wouldn't give my card back to me. I have my suspicions but I'm sure the board would pickup on it...
