Default Ty Cobb Authentic?

Just wondering if I could get an opinion on this Ty Cobb autograph, and wondering what a roundabout value would be, considering it seems to be shellacked.

It is not a replica ball. It is one of the Marinos backed in the oven.

I'm no autograph or Cobb signature expert, but a logical question would be why is the ink so bold, clean and mint condition on such an aged and worn ball?
