Shipping prices from Auction companies
Posted By: Jim Clarke
I know everyone reads these boards and hope this will not hurt me by saying this. What's up with MASTRO shipping prices! I recieved both Lipset and Mastro's invoices today in the mail. In Lipset, I won 8 lots valued at 22,431.40 with nothing larger than a 19th century cabinet and the shipping was 20.00. In Mastro, I won 5 lots valued at 15,078.66 with nothing larger than a cabinet and the shipping was 110.26? I think Mastro should not look at shipping as a revenue stream for the auction. Many companies use an outside insurance carrier to insure packages that go priority mail without paying all the HIGH insurance premiums. When I saw the shipping charge I felt like a light-weight prize fighter that just won the title and I had to go get my own ice after the bout to put on my bruises. |

Although I was not nearly as successful, my invoice from Lipset was $6,794.30, which included $15 shipping and consisted of 2 complete sets and two single cards. My Mastro invoice was $1,252.94 which included $16.69 shipping for a signed baseball. |

All the love isn't free from mastro. They've got lots of mouths to feed and shipping AND HANDLING is one way to do it. Also, Lew packs reasonably while the folks at Mastro are into astounding overkill. I've actually received single cards packed in 1-foot square boxes and taped between multiple sheets of cardboard with enough peanuts to feed an elephant. That takes a lot of time to put together. |
