Default 1948 Leaf Honus Wagner question

What is he EATING?
It appears Wagner is eating Oreos or some other small cookie as his "action shot". What is it and what were they thinking? I can see Leaf wanting a shot of Wagner chewing gum but cookies? Whats the deal?

Hmmmm, an Oreo cookie action shot! Probably more healthy than taking a dip of tobacco to put between his cheek and gum ( as Walt Garrison used to say ).

If this is really an honest question, it's pretty much 100% accepted that is him stuffing his face with chewing tobacco.

The anti tobacco stance is an urban myth.

That is not plug tobacco nor is it loose leaf. It is food. I would say it is somewhat less than 100% accepted as a theory.

You can certainly believe what you want.

This is the first I have ever heard of someone not believing that in my hobby life so I change it to 99.99999999% accepted.

Thank You

It is the roundness of the article in his hand. Neither Plug nor Loose Leaf has such a round consistency and also the package looks more like a food product and less a tobacco.

I found the original photo, this should help sort it out.

Why H&S did not describe it as the photo for the leaf card is to me a bigger mystery, lol.

Score 1 for you Ya got me. I am going to place the blame for my error squarely on the Leaf artist who drew the chaw in too uniformly round of a manner.

I imagine it would have looked pretty funky with the printing process they used to leave it stringy. He would have had quite the gross blob in his hand.

Not that chewing tobacco is that appetizing to begin with, blech.
