I purchased the first one before I heard the news tonight. RIP

I just needed the Casey card.

In my effort to one day put together a (nearly) perfectly centered, combination graded/non-graded 1972 Topps set, I added these three guys. You can regularly find them in PSA 9 at reasonable prices, but the usual centering/tilting issues make them less worthy of the heavenly status of a 9 (insert the sound of angels singing). This trio is much closer to perfection than the ones that generally come up for sale, plus I love Buddy Harrelson...

Default "71"

Wow Matt count me in as another fan of this Ryan. Always check out any for sale but MAN, this "9" is the best one I`ve ever seen. Congrats on that Bad Boy, enjoy it for a long time Sir.

Thanks bro. It is also one that is always on my eBay search app. If it isn't the black design it is focus, or PD, lots of problems with it all the time.

I got this Schmidtty rookie at a great price, well less than what they usually sell for. Plus, I used the ebay coupon code to save $25 (sadly, that didn't even cover the tax and exorbitant shipping, but oh well). A really nicely centered PSA 7 1973 high number #615 Mike Schmidt RC...

Looks like the "54" is off to another solid start of monthly acquisitions, still can`t get over the 71 Ryan. With those black borders 9`s just don`t exist. Have been looking for a presentable Mays to pair up with this Mantle and figured I`d better get going before these Mays "leave the dock" for us small fries. Came up with a kind of 1952 Bookends. Great stuff guys, keep them coming.........

One thing is for sure, not all PSA 1 "poor" cards are created equal! That Mays has incredible eye appeal. Great pickup!

That 52T Mick in 1.5 is one of my favorite cards I have seen on the boards and it looks even better with the Mays to pair it with. Some cards just look great displayed together.

Wow, very strong eye appeal on both. Nice job and they look great together. It seems like all of the iconic cards are pulling away from the dock these days.

Thank you guys for all the kind words and yes Ig. agree with you, seems like all the iconic cards are "moving away". Guess it`s going to take more digging and of course plain ole luck sometimes, right place right time.

I feel the same way lately, and so was very grateful to gain access to a beautiful 1975 set that is poised to hit market. Was able to pick these colorful favorites. Especially thrilled about the #660 Aaron, which has only 41 PSA 9s and no tens.

And yesterday was a "right place, right time" moment for me when I came across this stunning signed Mantle, which is gonna serve as an early b-day present from me to me. So few are signed and even fewer of that group are really eye appealing. Have another I'm even more excited about; hope to have scans of it soon.

September postwar so far. I’ve randomly been picking up Allen cards that I think are nice. I think he may be the single most underrated player from the era at the moment.

I really like this, Ben. If the rest of your set is like this one, then it sounds like a great project! Good luck on finishing!

Yep a set of lower end raw cards. Just been picking up a few here and there for a couple years now. At one time I had one of the nicest SGC graded complete sets. Love the set just decided I wanted a raw set instead of the graded one.

I thought that was the case, but then I thought I might have confused you with another collector. That's the direction I am taking with most of my set building these days as well. I am finding it very satisfying.

Not that big of a deal, but it's a sharp-cornered Koufax (no offense to high-kicking Juan) and I got it for a lot less than what PSA 9 OC's go for on the rare occasion they pop up...

That 71 Ryan is breathtaking, an all-time favorite card of mine. Congrats, Matt!

I picked up one card:

Lindell is meh. A Holloway back is a rare one, and this one is a variation off the usual "Black Cow Sucker" back. I added one of those at the 2019 National, so this was on my list.

Love that 54 Berra, and many more others. Three back from a sub, the '72 Ryan I knew would not grade high. The 73 Schmidt I'm fine with. The Corsair pretty happy with a 7 Thanks, Pat

Default Keep Em Coming

Really great items guys, keep them coming. Is it me or does it seem like this month is really off the charts. Super High end 71`s, Schmidt Rooks, and 9`s like there going out of style and oh yah, a beautiful early Cobb for the hell of it. Just a thought, observation, or do others feel Ryan is the next "break out" as far as Post War collectors are concerned ?

I think The Ryan Express is definitely a big keeper. In reading your post, I decided to check out the recent sales prices of some of the Ryans (in the same grade) I've picked up over the last few years, and holy heck have they gone up in value!!! I don't see that changing, because he has some of that wondrous 'Mantle magic' attached to him.

That feeling you get when everything you've bought off of eBay has already arrived, so you have no new cards coming anytime soon...

Spelling "Yastrzemski" correctly without needing to look it up since the 1980s.

That Clemente Pro-Star is a card I've never seen. Wow.

Nice addition there Dave, that Clemente really pops with the yellow back drop. Enjoy that one Sir.

Picked up these two Hi #s, as well as multiple upgrades, from the unprecedented dueling 1952 Topps PSA set breaks held by PWCC and Probstein that concluded last Tuesday evening. Some of the prices were better than expected, obviously a duel set break can do that to prices.... as a collector I was glad these breaks ended on the same night, while I am sure the consignors wished these breaks were more spread out.

Either way, now down to just 4 to go to finish this set.

Thanks. It just looked so good for a PSA 5. It wouldn't be for someone that wants perfect centering, but I like it.

A pretty cool mail day.

Seeing this centered-both-ways 1973 #615 Mike Schmidt RC at a really good price made me jump at it immediately. There's a bit of snow, but the corners are better than they seem to appear. Plus, I added two more 1967 high numbers to my slowly growing tally...

Nice grabs!

I was watching those and telling myself, hopefully some day.

Congrats, and congrats on only needing 4 to finish.

Thank you Dale, the four still needed are not going to arrive anytime soon as each of their costs will be steep....best of luck on the continued progress on your set!
