Eric,
Congrats on that Duffy. You beat me on it. I was so close to making another bid, but ultimately decided not to. Enjoy.

Michael,
I have congratulated you privately on that card, but congrats again! That is truly phenomenal.

What is with the inordinate amount of Boston Garters all the sudden available? Years can go by without seeing 1 for sale and within a few months now several are for sale spread over the four corners of the vintage baseball card world.

peter - aside from the 2 you refer to, the Goodwin & Co auction has at least the W Johnson and the Mile High auction coming up has a Joe Jax.

Dave...great Spud Chandler card. Brings back some memories for me. When I was a kid back in the 80's I used to send cards off in the mail to retired ballplayers to sign. It was just a reprint card that I sent to Spud Chandler, but he signed it and sent me a note back as well saying good luck with my collection. His writing was shaky as all get out...so I doubt anyone would have even authenticated it, but a week after I got the autograph back in the mail he died.

thanks guys...i plan to have SGC slab it at the Reading show.

as far as "a lot" of them coming up recently, 2 are from the same person, and the others, well, a coincidence i guess.

mine's not going anywhere for a long time.

very nice BG...can we see a back scan michael? who's chipping in with me for the speaker dan still has? maybe that can be next month's board prize! <hint><hint>

my first prewar card ever was a t206 johnson pitching...my 2nd e90-1 lajoie, and my 3rd e93 wagner. those 3 images have the most sentimental value to me and glad to have 1 back:

Great story about Mr Chandler... he doesn't have many cards out there so I really wanted to get this one. He's never really mentioned when discussing the all time great Yankee pitchers... but there was a span where he was one of the best in baseball. Reminds me a bit of Guidry in that he was totally dominant for a few years.

The Garters are not abundant right now. The monies for them are hot and so what better time for those others. The cards are unreal. There was a gentleman in Boston that had 9 of the 12 and recently released 4-5 which you may have seen in previous auctions.Jax ,CObb,Konecthy,MAranville were 4 of those. I had the Konecthy ,along with others EVers,Speaker and Herzog. I also had 2 suitcase Garters and a b&w. My 07 economy forced me to make garter decisions and so be it.....it was fun. Back to the CObbs I guess. It would be wise to latch one of the upcommimg Garters if you truly want one. After this couple , it may be awhile for another comes about.Holding one or several gives you an amazing feeling in the card world. I will miss them all !

When I become smarter then a 5th grader and learn how to post cards here, I will show the Keeler batting in an PSA9 that I recieved from Michael. This guy cares for his quality.

Thank you

edited for spelling

Dan- thank you for your kind words...it was a pleasure dealing with you.

Dan is right, these Boston Garters are not abundent by any means, just a coincidence that several have been let go recently...believe me, it is very tuff to acquire one, it took me a very long time, and had to give up some of my best pieces to get it...but well worth it.

all the best-
MS

Here's my new Hugh Jennings.

I'm hoping that if I resubmit it for review, it'll get bumped into a Ruth holder.

So much for starting with commons huh Dale? Geez, I guess it is easier to start with HOFers and work your way down. Nice approach.

Nice cards & autos.

The older players had such artistic signatures, unlike alot (but not all) modern players. Does anyone else agree?

Those are some true beauties.

You can blame computers and email for poor manuscript these days. We just don't practice enough..
