Look what I got on EBay for less than $5

OK, I'm sure they're reprints, but there is no "Reprint" text on the cards. I compared them to some of my real 1934s and 1935s, and I can't see any difference - other than the condition.

Here's a few pics of the reverse sides.

the borders seem too white on the fronts. Once you get them in hand, a high resolution scan will tell the story.

A high resolution scan shouldn't be necessary Matt, as these
are obviously reprints.

I have them in hand. I scanned these on my Cannon scanner. What do you mean by a "High Resolution Scan"?

I appreciate the comments about the white, but comparing them to my known authentic cards, I'm not sure.

i have seen some reprints where the backs look and feel real, but the fronts have a slight gloss to them. the ones i had were aged to make them appear as originals. they were roughed up to take off the gloss. but, when holding the reprint cards directly in front of a bright light bulb the light penetrated thru the card.the card stock wasthinner like a old topps card.

Have you illuminated them with black light??? That should easily separate real ones from reprints.

Another thing to look at is where they were listed. If listed in the proper category for Diamond Stars the lack of other bidders would be a tip-off that they may be reprints. Diamond Stars are very popular and collectors would not let these pass at such a price if they thought they were real.

These are definitely reprints. I have an Al Simmons graded a 7 and a Jimmie Foxx graded an 8 and neither of them have borders that look as nice as that.

I held them under the light, and they looked no different than my other Diamond Stars. My others have very rounded corners.

What does one see with a blacklight?

These cards were listed on an evening where EBay had the 20 cent listings coming Off auction. There pages and pages of items every second. The seller of these cards had "Reprints?" in his description, as if he wasn't sure.

Jim,

Modern cards (ie, starting around the late 1940's) will fluoresce under blacklight because that's when paper companies started adding brighteners to their product. Cards produced before the late 1940's won't. You can buy a blacklight on Ebay for under $10. Worth investing in one.
