Gearing up for the next Net54 board contest
Posted By: leon
I am getting ready for the next board contest and am soliciting opinions. I like the "guess the price" of a featured ebay auction as it lets everyone play and it doesn't really "out" an ongoing auction as it's already "featured". I think the closest to the final price is good, over or under.....I do want to contemplate a dollar amount spread that you have to bid with respect to what anyone else has already bid....so someone doesn't bid 1 cent more than someone else.....ideas?? (also, once received one of Hal's books will be included with the prize...which will be a card but as yet undetermined).....best regards |

The guess the price contest works fine, but as I pointed out, when the thread reaches 100 posts it's a great deal of work to make sure you are x number of dollars higher and lower than someone else's guess. Is there any way to make that easier? |

While I think the reason for trying to implement some kind of "spread" so that you don't get bids that are 1-cent above someone else's is a noble one, I'm not sure logistically how to do it. To ask someone to scroll through an entire page and track existing bids is a bit much, imo. (Plus, if that bidding strategy was OK for The Price is Right, it's OK for me.) |

How about one of the Boston Garters in Hunt's next auction. The numbers should be all over the board and no one has any idea where they will land. |

Thanks for the feedback so far. The Garters will have certain increments so I don't really want to make them the contest...there could only be about 10-20 increments on each one and with over 100 board participants on guessing, it would be too cramped...regards |

Sounds like a good idea. Just skip the part about spelling and grammar. |

I agree with Barry's concern about 100+ posts... Sorting through those would be less difficult if "we" limit ourselves to short posts |

All we really need to do is eliminate the commentary and just input a number. |

Yeah, just make a strict posting format policy (ie, price only, no $ sign or commentary). Anyone who doesn't adhere to the format is disqualified. |
