Default Where's MVSNYC this week?

Posted By: MVSNYC

well, my world tour has brought me to Dallas, Texas this weekend (my cousin is graduating college)...Dinner @ The Palm last night, then drinks @ Wish...tonight Ghostbar @ the "W" Hotel...

that's all fine and dandy...BUT i need my Baseball Card Fix! i think some of you may live here, unfortunetly i don't have that much time, or else i would try to meet up with a few of you...but, at least, can anyone recommend a decent BBC Shop to visit in Dallas?

MVSNYC,

Leon is in Dallas! I do remember him mentioning an "All you can Eat" Meat place that is internationally known!? Maybe he'll chime in and give you the scoop on the joint?

Denny Walsh

Fogo de Chao and Texas de Brazi; they are about 1/2 mile apart from each other. Leon can tell you more about these places than I can

But if you need a meat fix -- perfect

Fogo de Cao is the absolute best place I have ever been to eat meat....all you can eat gourmet meats and gourmet salad bar. What more can one ask for?.....If you were here longer Micheal we could hook up. I hate to say but I don't think there are any good vintage card shops in this area (that I am aware of). I know John Richardson has a shop in San Antonio....but I really don't know of any others. There might be 1-2 in Houston but not sure. I am not sure I have been to the Palm....a little too "backbone" for me.....regards

Michael,

I live in central Dallas. I love Fogo de Chao, but if you are looking for some great steaks in the downtown area (looks like where you are hanging out) try the one of the following:

Bob's Steak House (lemmon and wyclff ave)
Nick and Sam's (maple?)
Nine (Olive st) - near Victory plaza, AA center, and the W hotel

Other hot spots for drinks:
Dragonfly (hotel zaza)
Hotel Palomar lounge
Trece (on Travis st.)
Javier's (great cigar lounge)
Thomas Ave Beverage company
Medici (club)

Unfortunately, I am not aware of a "good" baseball card shop with vintage. Maybe Leon knows one.

p.s. i really wish i had more time, would have loved to have met you guys for drinks (Leon, Rich, etc)...

As an addendum, IMO (humble) the Palm is only so so compared to the other great steak joints in town.

Fogo de Chao is one the best Brazilian steak houses in the country.
Texas de Brazil is weak at best.

Mike - I miss the old shop too!
And why is it that I'm going on a few day vacation
w/ the wife and we're going to the Jersey shore
from here in PA.
But everytime I read your posts you're everywhere
but NYC? You are the global N54 poster.
And forget a good steak downtown in Dallas
if the Rangers are home grab a dog at the ballpark.

Michael- you live in a city that is home to Peter Luger's, Smith & Wollensky, and countless other great steakhouses. Why go all the way to Dallas for a steak?

Why not have something indigenous to Texas, like....what do you guys actually eat down there?

The ubiquitous (sic, Barry -- please correct me if I'm wrong on the spelling) restaurant is Tex-Mex; there are also a ton of good steak places.

I miss good Italian and Jewish delis here in DFW; bagels are improving.

If Leon, myself, Scott, et. al had known he was on his way here; we would have figured out some food places or other places to join him. I took Leon to a sandwich franchise place yesterday -- and it was so much better than Subway

Regards
Rich

Hi Barry,
They eat A LOT of Beef in Texas.... and call each other "bastards"(George entertaining inter league play)

Hi Michael,
Delfrisco's has great Steaks and Lobsters, and the Original used to have a great bar for people watching.

Eat well Brian

Rich- you spelled it right, well done.

I just picture Texas as having lots of cowboys hanging out in saloons drinking whiskey and shooting each other, so I wasn't sure if they had time to sit down for a good old fashioned dinner.

That's interesting, Barry, as many Texans likely picture Brooklyn as having lots of mafiosos hanging out in bars drinking whiskey and shooting each other.

Jay/Barry- my cousin's college graduation is what brings me to Dallas...but don't worry, i eat plenty of NY's best offerings "whilst" i'm home.

we didn't get done with his ceremonies (plural) until 9pm, so we actually just grabbed some ribs & pulled pork at "red, hot & blue"...it was good, but i'm sure i'll catch heat from the locals who will tell me it's crap.

oh well, back to NYC tomorrow.
