A few weeks ago I purchased, via Buy it Now, a raw T206 Keeler on Ebay that was listed as NrMt. The price seemed too low for the grade and I did not know the seller and, since I know very little about T206s, I was concerned that since the deal seemed too good to be true it probably wasn't. When I got the card it looked very nice so today I treked out to Farmingdale NY to a show where SGC was doing on site grading. The card came back very very nice.....

Jay,
I saw that one for a second, but didn't pull the trigger (what a kick in the pants, but my pain is your gain this time). That's a great looking card. There has not been a PSA/SGC 9 (or 7 for that matter)of this card sold individually this calendar year. There was, however, one graded an 8 and it sold for $3,565.00, so I think you did well. Yours in cards, Dave

WOW. That is one nice $9,000 card. What did you pay?

Wow good job Jay. I also too get all sorts of surprises when I purchase cards from eBay. Unfortunately there not good ones. I’m very jealous, and happy for you way to go great card.

Maxx

Two people have emailed asking about the card's availability. I'm not a big grade guy(with the exception of my '48 Leaf football set) so if anyone working on a registry set or just into slabbed cards wants to knock my socks off with a trade or purchase offer I'll be receptive.

I guess this is why I know I am jinxed and Jay is lucky!!

I would have stayed away from the card just because it looks to me like the bottom border is "uneven" (it looks like there is an upwards slant to it)...

so I would have assumed that the card had been trimmed, especially with how sharp the corners are.

I give up.

Great Find, Jay!

PS - Is the card "symmetrical" or am I just seeing things?

Hal--Not sure what you mean by symmetrical. The centering is very nice so there is side to side symmetry. The sides are perfectly straight so if it looks otherwise then it is the scan. The bottom edge is cut at a slight angle and that is probably why it didn't grade higher.
I measured the card against my other Keelers when I got it and it was exactly the same size as the others(all of which are slabbed by either SGC or PSA)

What I was trying to ask was whether the "heighth" of the card is the same on both sides ... or whether the "angle cut" makes one side of the card (it looks like the left side) longer than the other side??

Obviously you have measured the card against others and it measures up ... so any "angle cut" must have happened originally at the factory in 1909 ...

which is what I meant when I said that I am JINXED...

because I would have been scared off by the cut.

Dumb me. Lucky you.

Actually, I had a similar experience with a T206 and had the same "happy ending" (though not as lofty a result). I bought a Waddell portrait that knocked my socks off for clarity and color, but the left side had what appeared to be a slant like you are alluding to. Measured just fine, the edges of the card seemed to have even wear and the corners had even wear. I sent it to SGC and it came back an 80. I think there are legitimate T206 "beveled" edges, just like there are legitimate OJ's with wavy edges.

Amazing card, BTW. If I had a result like this, however, my wife would probably make me sell it (yes, I realize I am not the boss of my own home).
