My first complete pre-war set.

I recommend the T200s for any set-builder looking for a set to tackle -
Very awesome, enjoyable, and attainable.

Congratulations. That is a neat set to complete. Which were the last three cards for you? How long did it take to complete the set?

Great work Joe, and I see you stressed good photo quality in each case. And your Boston NL is a 50, very respectable. Nice set indeed.

Fred,

The last three that I picked up were
St. Louis Nationals, then St. Louis Americans, and just recently the NY Americans.

The most difficult card to get in the set is definitely the Boston Natl.

I was just lucky to see a buy-it-now for the Boston Natl on eBay and clicked on it right away. It is the SGCs highest graded Boston Natl, and in person is probably the best condition card I have in the set.

Barry,
Photo quality was important to me... as some of the T200s can be blurry in spots (or all over).... so I looked for clear photo and good centering where possible... but with the 'tough 4' - I just picked up whatever I could.

Thank you to all who are posting comments for your kind words.

Edit to say:
Fred... it took me about 6 months to complete... but I don't recommend that fast pace unless your budget (and spouse) allows!

I didn't really get a good look till now and these things are great. The Boston Nationals one stuck out as the best contrast/darkest photo of the bunch to me too. It reminds me of one of my faves in my collection it's so dark....good job !!

Joe great job. What made you start collecting these? Did your Astoria postcard have anything to do with it?

the astoria card actually came after I started collecting the T200s, and the astoria card (as well as other team postcards) probably caught my eye because I was collecting T200s.

I started on the T200s after seeing one in person at a local card show. It was the Brooklyn Nationals. Before seeing the card in person - I didn't realize that the T200s are actual photographs. Not printing press renditions of a photo, but beautiful glossy photographs around 100 years old. I purchased the Brooklyn Natl and brought it home.

I then looked into the other cards in the set... and with names like Joe Jackson, Honus Wagner, Matty, Walter Johnson, Cobby, etc - I knew I wanted to go for the entire set.

For me, there is nothing like an actual photo. Team-cards or team photos are right up my alley... so I was happy to stumble upon the T200 fatimas.

btw, if interested... higher resolutions scans of the set can be found here -

edit to say: Robert... no idea what is next! just going to enjoy this one for a while

(although my wallet will not agree with my desire).

And thanks again for the emails, and for welcoming me to the T200 club!

Yes - thank you for your contribution.

That was our first transaction together, and is when I found out you are definitely one of the good guys in the hobby.

Probably one of the coolest aspects of going after a set is the people you meet along the way. This forum helped me make some nice T200 pickups, and helped me get to know some very nice people.

Thanks for posting that group.
I could see myself getting interested in those...didn't know they are actual photos, rather than cards...never seen one in person, so thanks for the info.
looks like a really neat way to collect the HOFers, as well as get a snapshot of the league at the time!
bravo!

Sorry to post twice in a row.....

I was looking over my T200 set and my NY Nationals has the entire bottom trimmed off to remove the Fatima advertising. I remember reading in Lipset's Encyclopedia that this was not uncommon. However, I've never seen another one trimmed in that way.

Anybode else?

The Philadelphia National card is my favorite in the set. It's probably the least expensive but the bottom row pose is just great!

Frank,

what's next?

I love the T222s... but right now - RPPCs, N300s and the Orange Borders are top on my radar. But I am sure to go slowly from now on.

Fred -

Of all of the cards, I think the Philly Natls has the most HOFers on it? I am not sure - I just briefly checked (going to chuck's info site.... great site btw).

Its hard for me to pick a favorite with Honus on the Pittsburgh card, and Big Train on the Washington card, and Matty on the NY Natl, etc....

but for me the nicest pose is the Chicago Americans - the top row guys with their arms folded! great stuff. I just wish that big spot on the left of the Chicago Americans card wasn't there (its on all of the Chicago Americans - not just mine).

edit to say:
CN - thats awesome. It is a very enjoyable set to collect. Good luck.
