Today is the final day of my internet and telephone auction. All qualifying bids must be in by 6:00 PM Eastern Time. After a three hour bonus period the 15-minute clock on all lots will begin at 9:00 PM. It will be reset back to 15 minutes every time somebody places a bid. When the clock reaches zero the auction will be over.

I want to thank everyone who has participated so far and wish all good luck.

Regards,
Barry

Barry:

Are the Congressional leaders rushing the economic stimulus plan through both houses in an effort to get those tax rebate checks out to your bidders before the auction ends?

Man, you REALLY have some clout in D.C.!

So just to clarify...

in light of the other post discussing concepts...

THE ENTIRE auction tonight will extend another 15 minutes every time someone bids on ANY item?

So people can bid on OTHER items for which they were the underbidder AFTER they lose out on a different item late at night?

I agree with Corey. I like this format the best as a buyer, because it seems to ensure that I will at least get SOMETHING for my troubles. If I get outbid on my favorite items, I can go back and start battling for something else that I had my eye on.

Hal- that is correct. In theory, the entire auction can stay open indefinitely as long as bids keep coming in.

Hi Hal,
Good to see you post again. Are you collecting prewar HOF cards again?

Not really anywhere near the extent that I used to...

but I see one item in Barry's auction that I am thinking about going after.

Hal, haven't seen you around in a while.

Would you like to just tell us which cards in Barry's auction are yours? I don't mind.

Barry,

There is no doubt here that you sent them just maybe the P.O. you used forget to send some out or lost and found them later..

Some pretty nice prices Barry. Especially on the pre-1900 stuff. Lots 1 and 2 really had me drooling...some lucky winners there I think with strong bidding.

Good morning to all, and thanks to everyone who bid.

The auction overall did well, and as Dave mentioned, 19th century seems to be particularly strong right now. Prices for 20th century material was not as consistently high.

There were some spectacular prices realized for great material; some what-you-would-expect-prices for pieces a notch below that, and some softness in cards that are popular but not particularly rare at all.

How did the state of the economy affect things? Don't know, but I would guess a few people were a little more conservative this time around.

Thanks for another nice auction Barry. I did my usual strategy of falling asleep way before the closing....on the couch...maybe a little drool on the side of my mouth. It worked great. I won 2 lots....Now, with my recent purchase I need to figure out how to pay for them.....

The auction ended at 1:45, which seems kind of late for a small auction. I think I need to do a little tweaking for the next one.

10 minute rule (instead of 15)
and bring it down to a 5 minute rule after 11pm

edit: and congrats on another fine auction. You are a credit to the hobby.

10 minute rule is a likely path, but my web designer wasn't sure if he could change the clock in midstream. He said he would have to think about it.

I may also raise the increments back to 10% up to 5K, and start the 5% at that level. It took a longer time to reach the same end result.

Barry:

Both of those ideas sound good. I was an active bidder on 5 lots but unfortunately they eventually all exceeded my price range.

Another great auction, keep up the good work!!!

I sadly didn't come away with anything either (I got outbid after I turned in for the night), but it was still a great auction!
