Default Refinishing Pewter (trophy mug)

This item (5" tall glass-bottom, N.G. Wood & Sons, pewter) didn't cost much, and I think it would look a lot better cleaned - in fact, there is orange residue around the brass bear logo from ancient cleanings.

Any suggestions on cleaning such an item? Or is cleaning a no-no?

Dan, I had a very similar mug about 30 years ago that I drank beer out of - glass-bottomed pewter, just like this one. I left it at a friend's house, he moved, I never saw it again. So I bought this one with the intention of actually drinking beer out of it.

Well I'm sure you could polish it up and it would look bright and shiney...but it would ruin it's character....I'd just leave it...doesn't look that bad to me

I am with Carlton. It has a great, old look to it. I wouldn't touch it. Much better that way, to me. Just one person's opinion and I am sure others differ.

At least wipe the inside before your first quaff.
