Ha! We all get lucky sometimes. I think football Rob should post his new super rare NFL championship pennant. Then you won't feel so bad for him.

These Lakers pennants aren’t in very good condition but I’ve had trouble finding pre-70s I don’t already have.

Good situation...You've got two so you can experiment with one. I think the top one is a great candidate because there's really nowhere to go but up.

Um, can we talk a bit more about this? You've successfully re-dyed a faded pennant?? Tell me more.

(Anything not to be talking about pennant bleaching for the 12th time....)

Can you walk me through the process of dyeing including naming specific supplies needed?

Also, do you have any before and after pictures of work you’ve done?

Thanks

I don't think I have before and after pictures any more. It's been a couple years since I've done it...though I may have posted some pics on here if you feel like digging through the thread. I think you'll have to go back to the summer of 2017 to find them.

I went nearly through this whole damn thread and couldn’t find your dye projects...yet I know you posted them! Some of your early photos are blurred out photobucket links but I didn’t see them in there.

I received a photo pennant today where the seller rolled it up and mailed it in a small box, and of course about 3/4 of the photo has become detached. The tape is still slightly sticky and may still hold the photo for a little while, but I imagine it will not hold up long term. Has anyone had any success re-attaching a photo to a pennant? Or should I just return it. It was a good deal, but nothing I couldn't live without.

thanks,
Rick

I'd return it, Rick...

Anyone who rolls up a photo pennant has no regard for the item (or for you as the buyer). This guy probably deserves to foot the cost of a return. Plus, it would bug you every time you looked at it (and wondered how long the photo can hang in there).

I know it would bother the heck out of me (if I collected Photo Pennants )

Thanks Mark, it would bug me as well. I was just wondering if there was a glue that works well for this, as it's a shame to ruin the pennant. I was bummed when I saw the small box, especially since he only lives 30 miles from me and charged $15 for shipping. After I got the package, he said flat shipping would have cost $27. I told him that ebay's shipping service doesn't work well for pennants, and that flat shipping with USPS only costs $7-9.

Pennants can't be shipped flat via ebay for under $4.00 if you can keep the weight under 9 oz. Which I do all the time. That's in a soft plastic sleeve obviously, not a rigid one. Drives me crazy when a seller tries to make it sound like they're doing me a favor by charging $10+ for a single pennant.

One other pro tip on shipping pennants...Use a box cutter to cut the cardboard the shape of the pennant. Don't ship rectangular. Why pay to ship all that extra cardboard?

Kyle (Domer05) recently obtained an amazing collection of pennants from California circa 1912-1915. In that collection were these outstanding oversized Santa Clara and St. Mary's (Santa Clara's football and baseball rival) pennants that he made available to me (thank you Kyle!). (we definitely want to encurage Kyle to show some of the other pennants from the collection).

I've only seen the Oaks version... maybe twice at auction in the last 30 years.

Super cool and uber-rare.... Incredible pickups!

Thank you, all! Yeah, I was as surprised as anyone to find these four among the collection. I only knew of the Oaks version. It never occurred to me that these were part of a series.

Which means there has to be a Los Angeles Angels version out there, too. So ... time to check grandma's attic

Interesting couple of pennants sold last night on eBay. More rare ones offered yet again, by jonsstats...

https://www.ebay.com/itm/orig-highly...p2047675.l2557

https://www.ebay.com/itm/orig-highly...p2047675.l2557

Both are obviously from the same original series (guessing early 1950s). Pretty strong price realized for the Browns Pennant. I had posted mine here a couple weeks ago and at that point, had never seen another. Then a week later, this one came along, and sold for $521.

The Boston Braves Pennant was a steal at $109, IMO. I would've definitely bid higher, had I not already had this one. I think I have now seen this pennant 3 times (in 3 decades of collecting). So someone got a very nice buy.

Does anyone else here have other pennants to show, from this unique series? The flared and stylized font and eclectic artwork seem to be the common threads. I have no idea how many teams were represented, but would love to see some others. Apparently this series never went into mass production, given the scarcity today.

Yes Rob... he seems to have a pipeline to rare pennants that never dries up.

Do you have an idea of which NY Giants Pennant fits into this series? Based on font and graphics, I would think perhaps this one linked below...

https://www.ebay.com/itm/1950s-New-Y...cAAOSw9GhYau2k

But it's common as hell compared to the others, so it's tough to figure this out.

The Redskins had a very similar Indian on their pennants at one point as well.

Great observation, Rob...

Same artist as the Braves for sure. Now we just need to know the maker of these pennants (paging Mr. Domer!)

I bet there are many more from this series just waiting to be identified. While we're at it, below is a Senators Pennant that's definitely from the same maker as the Redskins (note the obvious similarities...)

I bet there are many more from this series just waiting to be identified. While we're at it, below is a Senators Pennant that's definitely from the same maker as the Redskins (note the obvious similarities...)
I think these two are Ad Flags ... perhaps they just lifted the Indian design from another maker.

Maybe this one for the Giants? Though pretty ordinary mascot compared to the Browns and Braves pennants.

I believe that one is purported to be a Keezer. It’s heavily reproduced, as well.

I have only seen that one as a mini. Due to the tassels, yours might be full sized (?)

I concur with Greg's opinion: both the Redskins and Senators pennants are by Adflag. While the Braves pennant does feature the same Indian artwork, I am confident this one was by some other maker as it has tassels--and, Adflag never used tassels.

I'm pretty sure this Indian artwork was heavily reproduced (stolen?) by multiple pennant makers.

I believe this is a Keezer also. I’ve had this one in the past.

I believe Jon sells other people’s stuff on eBay as well as his own. He gets good looks and good prices on a lot of different items so I can see why people would use him.

I also believe the Redskins and Senators are Adflag. The Redskins was part of a larger find in the Chicago area many years ago of unsold stock. Same thing applies with the Senators. I may know that seller.

I have bought those in groups that originated from that Chicago / Milwaukee area from old vendors many years ago. I have a number of Adflag pennants from those same groupings.

I wish I could go back in time. Don’t seem to find too many pennant finds anymore.

Did one of you guys win the lot of 17 pennants on ebay tonight? If so, I’d be interested in the b&w Giants pennant.

I was lurking but it went for more than I hoped. That pennant was the cream of the crop.

Rob,
I know they make that one in both blue and black with 1958 and without. Also, multi colored and just white. Have you ever seen it in any other colors?

I didn't get it. Can you post a picture? Is it the one with the pitcher throwing?
