Default 1950 Bowman printing…

I was looking at a Granny Hamner last night. I read the back and it discusses his having a good season in 1950. When exactly did the 1950 Bowman set get printed?

They were printed in series, #204 Hamner was printed well into the season.

A number of card sets were printed in the middle of the season, and contain images or text that reflects that. One of Carl Hubbell's 1933 Goudey cards references his fine pitching in August of that year. I believe the last series of '33 Goudeys came out during the '33 World Series, and featured players from the teams playing in it, the Giants and the Senators.

181 to 252 can be found with or without the copyright on the back. No copyrights are tougher and no copyrights 181 to 210 or thereabouts are much tougher

Thanks, gentlemen. I’ve got about 100 of these guys. I will look through what I have; they are a neglected part of my collection, even though I rather like the cards/the shape/the printing.

181-216
217-252

If I’ve done my math right, which is a big if, these are the series.

Still need a number of the 6th series no copyrights. I’m not clear how they made this ‘mistake’ twice.

I need 14 of the 6th sheet, completed the 7th.

It seems odd that the mistake was made twice during different sheets and then corrected. And it seems odd the Papai misprint has it both ways too. I suspect there is something more complicated with the sheets than is generally thought. Production may have overlapped, and series may not quite tie equal the sheets (I.e., sheets 6 and 7 were a single release or released very closely together)

Default Spread sheet

Interestingly enough, I have about 100 of these cards. I wouldn’t mind completing the set. Does anyone here have a spread sheet they wouldn’t mind sharing? I know, I know. I should just type 1-252 on an excel spread sheet lol.

Default card back - write up

yea, interesting..even the 60s Topps cards sometime gave hints of late printing...the 69T Mantle - noting he announced retirement , often the " bottom line "bio note about release or trade, etc.. etc..

I'm not familiar with the Papai misprint in the 1950 Bowman set. Can you provide more information or pictures about what it is?

This is the Papai printing error, with the blue line in the lower left. It is not too common, but not impossible or anything either. It exists with both back types, which is rather weird and leads me to suspect something more complicated was done with the printing of the later series at least.

This picture is not mine.
