Default Pat Corrales

I remember Corrales as a Philly and Red.. surprising to me how many other clubs that he was involved with. This is his Puerto Rican winter league sticker while catching for the Pence team in 1972. RIP

Whenever I heard his name I would think of the 1973 card where it looks like Fergie Jenkins put him in the hospital but in the video of the play Corrales wasn't hurt at all.

I think he was still active as a Special Assistant with the Dodgers front office. His name was still showing on their front office list when I looked a few weeks ago.

I can't even imagine still working at 82! Guessing it was a love of what he was doing.

One time he definitely was hurt was while he was managing the Indians in a game against the Oakland A's. Corrales took umbrage at A's pitcher Dave Stewart and charged the pitcher on the mound. When he arrived, Stewart quickly decked him with one punch, and if memory serves, sent him to an ER with a concussion. Pat was kind of a hothead, I guess. I recall that when he managed the Phils he once benched Mike Schmidt, and while with the Reds, he benched Pete Rose.

Being an Orioles fan, my memory of Corrales is making the last out of the 1970 World Series (grounding out to Brooks Robinson of all people).

RIP Pat

yep. And someone did some research and Fergie was out on the play.

Edit: I just noticed the ump looks like he is starting to punch him out.

RIP Pat
Sparky Anderson, with the realization that the Reds were not going to win the game or the series, wanted Corrales to say he had played in the World Series so he sent him up to bat on purpose.
