Default Wright & Ditson - Red Sox Bat

Not a bat guy so throwing this out there to the bat experts to fill in the rest of the story for me. I’ve never seen a bat with a stamp like this. 34 inches in length. Appears to me to be 1900-1910, but looking for info. Any help with age, relevance to Red Sox, value, etc is appreciated.

Broadly speaking the relevance to the Red Sox would be George Wright lived just outside Boston and once played for the Boston Red Stockings, and the original Wright and Ditson store was in Boston. Wright is known to have attended games for both Boston teams. You might find the bat listed for sale in one of his guides.

That is interesting pieces of history and a good place to start your hunt

The Red Sox model first appears in the Wrights & Ditson catalog in 1912.
It is the companion to the Tris Speaker model and they are both called their professional model bat.

oiled and polished

33" to 35" and cost $1.00 each

uncracked/unchipped $350.00 to 500.00

Really nice bat! What else do you need to know - do you have other pictures

Spalding purchased Wright and Ditson, still kept the name for some years - there was a factory in Boston or at least in the New England area I think back them. I remember seeing pictures of it once and a catalog, good luck with the research.

I don’t own it, helping a friend. I did get sent a link that shows an identical bat auctioned through Heritage that sold for about 3500 last year. They describe it as a 1915 team bat. Jim says it’s model available for purchase. All I know is I’m not a bat expert. I know a lot about memorabilia, but not bats.

from the 1912 catalog, this is the first time it appears in a catalog for W&D and it is no longer in the catalog after 1915. The Speaker model is only shown in the 1912 editions and then it does not appear.

Yes - you made a correct statement - 1915 is about right! Style and what was selling in catalogs - it's a great bat!
