Default Beware of this deceptive Ebay seller

Their is an Ebay seller didiwinn123, that is being very deceptive in his description and just outright lying. This seller recently purchased a card for $13.34, with shipping on Ebay and is telling a story about how he got it from his great grandfather and the appraisal he got is $800, but on Craigslist he says the appraisal is $1000 - $1400. This is the link to his Ebay auction: http://www.ebay.com/itm/RARE-1922-Am...90885268266%26

I did a search and found this posting he made on Craigslist too and has an appraisal of $1000 - $1400 for it and still tells us that he got it from his great grandfather too. Here is the links to it: http://worcester.craigslist.org/bar/3573037751.html

Another posting here he wants $700 for it and their are others too : http://worcester.craigslist.org/bar/3654064482.html

Don't you hate guys like this? He bought it on Jan 13th for $10.49 plus shipping. Must have bought it from his great grandfather.

I sent the seller the following message...

"I'm confused. Your description says that the card belonged to your great grandfather, but your feedback history shows you bought the same card for $10.49 on January 13th. So you purchased the card from your grandfather?"

We'll see if he responds.

I also sent him a message asking if he could give me any more information as to it's history, seeing how it was passed down for his GGfather. People like this really give the hobby of BB card collecting a bad name.

Be wary of sellers selling pre-war cards who also sell talking Darth Vader helmets and Finding Nemo figurines

Good point, so in other words a dishonest card flipper and not a true BB card collector.

Not really. When I was active selling I sold a lot of different things. China, Harley parts, cards, camera stuff, books, old stereos, old industrial stuff....Pretty much anything I found at yard/estate sales or flea markets that I thought was underpriced.

And yes, the occasional thing I bought on Ebay and sold for much more than I paid. Usually because the item description when I bought it was very poor, or the pictures were awful and I took a chance. (I've also got a "few"
cartons of stuff I was wrong about)

I never resorted to BS stories, and always had good photos and a description that was short on hype and actually described the stuff.

Steve B
PS: I probably would have kept the talking Darth Vader helmet.

I like this line from the Item Condition section:

“my card would grade at least a 7 or 8 in today's market if it was regraded”

What I just emailed him:

"You bought this EXACT card on January 13th, 2013, item number 200875771017 for $13.34 and now reselling it for triple that initial starting bid and 30X that for buy it now and state this came from your Great Grandfather????? This is a scumbag thing to do, and very much a scam to any potential buyers.

Good luck!"

Sorry for the hostility, I hate eBayers like this!!

Naive newbies deserve the benefit of the doubt in my opinion, but this seller deserves the wrath of the Net54 mob. I'll bring the noose.

My great-grandfather approves of this message.

Why? Is there an unwritten rule in the hobby that if you sell cards, you can't sell anything else?

I realize the description is a scam attempt, so logic doesn't really enter the picture. But if the card was really appraised for $800, why would any seller have a BIN price of $300? That alone should set off huge red flags.

Can't wait to see his response. He wrote me the same thing. I could not think if a nice way to respond without cussing at him, so I haven't followed up yet.

He clearly doesn't understand grading as he says card would grade a 7 or 8 when SGC grades on a scale of 10 thru 88. This card would grade A every time due to being trimmed. What an idiot.

I just got this Ebay message back from didiwinn123 after asking him to give me this cards history: "this card belonged to my great grand father and was left to me in his will it was kept in a lock box so nothing would happen to it now that i have it im not really a collector but if you would buy it now and request an invoice i will save you 100- and give it to you for 200- with free shipping...... be for the auction ends. i rather see some one use it in there collection then to be in my drawer ". I was thinking of reporting him to Ebay for being so dishonest in his description and to stop the auction, for people unaware or for new Baseball card collectors.

Did you happen to see my other two links Paul S., that show how he describes it and his asking price on Craislist? I started this thread because i don't want to see new collectors or just people unaware to get ripped off and leave collecting feeling disillusioned.

Mark, Yep, I've been following the whole thing. I wasn't going to chime in because I knew everybody would say it for me anyway. Ultimately, I couldn't resist, and in cases like this I think it's best for everybody to 'dogpile' on it, especially with the replies to the questions he is giving out.

I just got this Ebay message from didiwinn123: "i canceled my last auction and i just reposted it for a buy it now for 125.00
here is the new post # 290887702027 so you can copy and paste it to find the new post so not only did i lower the price for you i posted it for 5 days too but if interested hit buy it now for only the 125- instead of 200- it really is a nice card to add to any collection.... also has free shipping on it....also will be shipped with a tracking #
", so the story continues i guess.

Here is didiwinn123 new auction link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/RARE-1922-Am...item43ba42160b

Just checked my E121 DeVormer from 1922. Better rush it to a vault as it is SGC 60. I'm rich and didn't even have to play the lottery. Isn't life grand. LOL

So now the card is only worth 9x what he paid for it a month ago? I guess he really is quite reasonable after all.

He'll fit right in on ebay as a card dealer.

It would probably grade a 7 if you trimmed those borders off

Trim those borders and I bet it gets an A. :-). The only place I want strait A's in would be a college study course report card.

He is still going with the same "would grade a 7 or 8 today" nonsense.

Maybe I should send the scan of my DeVormer to show him what the card should look like. Scratch that idea, he might steal the scan and try to auction the card.

If you don't want the card, you can also check out the 1st Series Elvis Presley Liquor decanter that he has for sale. Probably more intrinsic value than the Darth Vader helmet. Also sorry to hear that Great grandfather is no longer referenced. I was kinda growing attached.

Only if the decanter is full of whiskey.

I always have a lot of trust in people who are too lazy or stupid to capitalize or make an attempt at punctuation.

you can see its in very good cond. by my picture good as soon as the payment clears i will ship this card out

also please check out my other auctions as well and i will combine my shipping if you win more than 1 item....
thanks,"

My great grandfather was known as a prolific tobacco user. Cigarettes, cigars, pipes, chew etc. He was 32 in 1909. I expect he threw away cards that would sell today for more money than he earned in his lifetime.

Default Got a response

I emailed this guy just to see what he would say and I mentioned the eBay card he just bought. His response " dude I sold that eBay card for $50 already. This is a different card I got from my grandfather , I just used the same picture"
Craigslist is always good for a laugh.
" Luke this card did not belong to your grandfather"
