Are there any other Yankees (Highlanders) in E98 - 30 card set besides Hal Chase?  I am guessing Russ Ford but I don't have a card to confirm.

Also, why is the Chase card so much more expensive than any of the others?

here is an example of one I found on eBay and was taken back by the price;

Here's a link to a gallery of the entire 30-card set, on oldcardboard.com (yes, Ford is a Yankee):

Thanks for the link.

It looks as though (19) Vaughn was also a Yankee (Highlander).

Is the Chase card short printed?  there are some major HOFers in this set yet they book half of what the Chase card books for.

Also, the Matty card (1) has a different type set (Font) than the others, at least it appears that way from the card scans on Old Cardboard..

Hi Marty,

The matty card has different type set due to the length of his last name so that they could fit in on the card.

The Chase has become more popular over the past couple years and commands a bit of a premium over some of the other non-hofers.

That being said, it's not short printed or anything like that.

I think the popular players have more surviving copies which is why the commons are a bit harder to find.

Rob

Hi Everybody,
The Chase is not that hard to find. One of the reasons for the spike in recent times is that I was trying to build a color set. The lowest I paid was 198 for a green and the highest I paid was 410 for a SGC 10 blue. The card is not the toughest. I would say the Coombs or Vaughn are.
Best Wishes,
Mike Gray

I was looking at my Beckett Graded card magazine that arrived in the mail today and the Chase card is NOT LISTED!

I know after looking in my SCD catalog that the Chase card has the highest value.. I think my SCD is a few years old.. perhaps 2005..

Highest priced cards in the E98 set, IMHO, are Cobb closely followed by Wagner which has been gaining steam, Young and Mack. Chase isn't even close. I'd say that Chase auction was an aberration.
The two toughest cards in the set are Vaughn and Coombs. Dahlen, Kling, Walsh and Tenney are in the next group of scarcity. The Ed Walsh is a wild card. Rarely seen in mid grade (or higher) condition. This card's prices are very erratic and have huge swings based on timing. I have seem it sell for as little as a Lajoie (still a stout price) or as much as a Young.
I think right now the Wagner is the "hottest" card in the set and Mack is on fire also.

The Matty has always been a popular E98 pose as well. I think this is due both to aesthetics and the uniqueness of the pose, not to mention that it is Matty.

Is there a scarcity in terms of the background color ?

Which are the hardest/easiest to find ?

Are certain players found in one color ?
