Joe, because the NY Daily news (which I now see is not part of this article) claims they can back up their report that he had a sexual relationship with her. I originally read the article somewhere else and googled for the original news release to post here. I don't know one way or the other if he did or not, but I can tell you for certain no matter what the truth is "It Just Got Worse For Roger Clemens".

Joe D - actually the article states that the report was that Clemens had a sexual relationship. Clemen's lawyers have stated that the relationship was not sexual.

Had Roger just kept his stupid mouth shut and disappeared a la McGwire none of this stuff befalls him. But Rog and his lawyers knew better and his situation just continues to get worse and worse and worse. Some of the worst strategic decisions I've ever seen on a case.

If he did have an affair with her at 15+ it would be at 13 years ago, and my guess in whatever state it might have occured the statute of limitations on statutory rape are up. This is much less a legal issue as it is a PR issue, and I'm curious who is behind the negative PR for Clemens?

It's not just a PR issue because Clemens claimed in his defamation lawsuit that his wonderful reputation was besmirched by McNamee's claims of steroid use. If Clemens was dirty to begin with, i.e., having an affair for 10 years, than his claim of damage to his reputation is weakened. Of course, now McNamee will be sending out subpoenas to the singer as well as Pettite, etc. etc. Smart move by McNamee's lawyers to put more pressure on Clemens. I'm sure everyone around Clemens is happy that they'll be dragged into the spotlight on this one, being forced to answer uncomfortable questions.

Well, nobody can say it was statutory rape unless they know what state the alleged incident occurred. Fifteen is fair game in some states. Also, not even the sleezeball trainer claimed to have knowledge of a sexual relationship.

Rose should be in the HOF and who cares if a one-hit-wonder...in country, no less, wants to cash her final check at Roger Clemens' expense? Is Michael Jackson guilty? Probably. O.J...he did it for the money. Rose? A gambler, but he played baseball the same way...taking calculated risks every chance given to him. But, I for one don't care. I still remember Thriller, Wanting to play like O.J., and the feeling I had when Rose broke the record. I knew I had just witnessed history. I just think it's just a terrible thing that the media already has Clemens at the firing squad. He commited statutory rape because......he may have used steroids?????Yeah, that makes perfect sense. The "HAS-BEEN" needing money for her drug habit theory is completly out in left field. Maybe Judge Judy can take this one on, too...

The age of consent in Texas is 17 {Texas Penal Code Section 21.11}. However , "...It is an affirmative defense to prosecution under this section that the actor...was not more than three years older than the victim and of the opposite sex...(and) did not use duress, force, or a threat against the victim at the time of the offence" and is not a registered sex offender {Section 21.11(b)}.
Rog would not have fallen under any of the exceptions and would be guilty of criminal conduct IF he bumped uglies with her the first 2 years he knew her.

Assuming they are telling the truth. I doubt she'd state publicly that Roger had sex with her when she was 15 as it would be self-injurious and horrible for him. But she did throw him under the bus and call him a liar after he claimed their relationship was non-sexual.

A has been singer, someone who at best was a vague recollection for the majority of the American public, just became a household name, and is on every newsshow in the country. Not like she has nothing to gain during the relaunch of her career.

But come on! You have a 28 year old athlete, a hero in his town making millions (even back then), taking a pretty blond 15 year old girl up to his room to talk??

The only way I'm buying that is with one other explanation, and considering he's got four kids and we know his life likes it in the butt, I can't see that explanation either!
