Default Opinions needed on a Sporting News Cobb and a hand cut Ruth

Hi guys! Would appreciate any opinions as to condition and value of these two cards. I realize that the Cobb looks to be a bit over graded in the holder that its in. Thank you!

The Ruth anywhere between 500-1000, the Cobb looks ok, but I would want to see it better to make sure it is real and not altered, maybe 800-1000

Thanks James I appreciate the feedback. I looked at the Cobb really close and, in my opinion,it doesn't appear to be altered, just maybe closer to VG than EX.

Sorry but I think the Cobb is a reprint, that one looks like one of the good reprints. You can tell by the print detail, esp around the bat and you cant see any detail on the D on his uniform.

Here is a real one to compare to-

I have to question the authenticity of the Cobb for the same reasons as those stated by Scott. The shadows are too dark with no details at all visible in them. In the one Scott posted, you can easily see Cobb's belt around his waist, however in the card in question it is completely black. Same goes for the D on his chest as pointed out by Scott.

It doesn't have the large spacing between the image and the black border that is a dead giveaway for a fake however. This is a better looking reprint in my opinion.

Thanks,

AndyH

That Cobb is no good. Also could be a fake holder, as it doesn't match up with this one that sold on ebay six months ago for $324.00 (same serial number), although the AGS slab alone is enough to make me skeptical:

I would not buy from any grading company other than SGC, PSA or Beckett.

As for the Ruth - I have followed that card for a few years now, in that condition I would say $500-$700, of course I would try and pay 400
