Default 1935 Burke Photos - Identification Help

After scanning and labeling my Burke photo stamps (1935-1937) -

I am left with 25 'unknowns'.

If anyone can help identify any of the people in these photo stamps - that would be awesome.

Thank you in advance for any help provided.

The first grouping.....
American League unknowns.
6 Yankees, 3 White Sox

The second grouping.....
National League unknowns
4 St. Louis, 2 Giants, 2 Braves, 1 Cub

The third grouping.....
a little tougher - I don't know a team affiliation for any of these.

Default Here goes nothing

Top group middle row left side I think is Frank Crosetti.
Top Group bottom row middle I think is Harold Muddy Ruel.
Middle group middle row left I think is Bill Hallahan
Bottom group Top row right is Bill Terry
The rest don't look immediately familiar.
Best I could,
Mark

Just for quick starts, the Yankees in the first group, from left to right in the first row: Russ Van Atta, Red Rolfe, and Pat Malone...

The second row: Frank Crosetti, Ben Chapman, and Johnny Broaca...

Hope it helps somewhat!

Last scan Packy McPartland was a somewhat famous Boxing Referee.

Second scan from the bottom is old timer Duffy Lewis, I know the signature better than the face.

Oh, and I'm pretty darn sure that in the last group of photos, the third on the first row has to be Bill Terry...

I assume the green checkmarks denote those who are already identified. In that spirit, without looking anything up, I give you the the following:

-Second scan, first row, far left is Bill DeLancey
-(Guess) second scan, first row, far right is Paul Dean
-second scan, middle row, middle is Giants trainer Doc Schaeffer
-second scan, middle row, far right is Giants coach Tommy Clarke.

It appears as though there are a few career minor leaguers included here. I'm not at all familiar with this issue.

also.... someone has pointed out that the person in the third picture - second row - far right - may be Roy "Cotton" Bogren who was the head groundskeeper for the Cubs for a long time / but started as the 'clubhouse boy'..... any thoughts on that one?

also - - I will look for Paul Dean photos to hopefully find a match.

I'm still trying to find out who is right next to Delancey(it's killing me!) but the one right next to him i'm pretty sure is John Rothrock...that would me 2nd picture top row far right. regards, brandon...Edited to add that it's Jack Rothrock (John was his birth name)

Can't sleep tonight so I thought I'd take a stab at one more if okay...Third group top row middle...I'm guessing it could be Virgil "Spud" Davis. Looks like a Cardinal Uni and the eyebrows match other photos of him but i've been wrong before! Brandon

Third group middle of top row is Virgil "Spud" Davis-St. Louis Cardinals. Last picture in grouping is Ford Frick-National League President.

Thanks Brandon and Brian! awesome

I am going with Ford Frick and Virgil Davis (found similar/supporting photos).

That does look like Bill Walker next to Delancey but I am going to try to find better supporting photos.

And.... I will try to come up with something on Jack Rothrock (can't seem to find any photos to support).

Thanks!!

Thank you to everyone..... we knocked out 17 of them pretty quickly.

I am down to the last 8.

- - Top row, first person on left - - After seeing Ford Frick, I looked up the American League President of the time..... this has me wondering if this photo is Will Harridge (looking for a young photo of him to match up).

- - Top row, second person looks like Bill Walker (looking for more photo evidence)

- - Top row, person on right - signature looks like Cotton Bogren.... who was a clubhouse boy for the Cubs (and eventually a long career as groundskeeper). I am looking for some photo evidence.

- - Miiddle Row, first photo on left - possibly Paul Dean. Looking for some more photo evidence

Default Glad I could help...

Or at least confuse a little! I'm at work so I cant provide solid photo evidence but I feel pretty confident in my Jack Rothrock and Bill Walker ID's. I will say for certian that the one i believe to be Rothrock is definately not Daffy Dean. Maybe some other old cardinal collectors will chime in. Also wanted to add that in your new photo the player that is dead center looks like a young player for the Boston Braves maybe? With that in mind he kinda reminded me of a VERY young Vincent Dimaggio(who came up to the bigs i believe in '36 or '37 w/Boston) but I'm not at all familiar with the old Braves teams. Best of luck with the rest though and again sorry to confuse! Brandon

It is the bat boy for the Cubs - Gilly Hasbrook.

Here is a 1993 Conlon Collection card of Bill Walker...maybe this will at least help identify him? Brandon

Brandon -

Is that a mole on his face?

Because I don't see a similar mole on the person on the stamp.

edit: it sure does look like him otherwise.

Default it does look like a mole!

I'm sure that it's not but i did find something better....If you do a search on this site under gashouse gang you will find an archived thread called "lets see your gashouse gang". Go to page 6 of this thread and you will see that Frank Wakefield has the same picture you do with Walker sitting down maybe in the dugout? Sorry i cant figure out how to link this directly to your thread but this might help a little more.

We are down to 6.

I am leaning toward calling the "Cotton" one - "Cotton" Bogren who was the clubhouse boy for the Cubs at the time (and then went on to be head groundskeeper for many years).

There is a stamp of the Cubs bat boy Gilly Hasbrook - so I don't see why there couldn't be one of the Cubs clubhouse boy (although I wish I had some more evidence).

edit: anybody know the names of the bat boy and clubhouse boy for the White Sox in 1935?? I bet thats who the two White Sox players are. With their sig on the stamp - all we need is name confirmation.

Default Rothrock in '37

I understand this isn't a side view of him as in your burke photo and am still trying to find a more accurate picture of rothrock(it seems nearly impossible)...but here is one that you might see some resemblance...

Brandon -

it really does look just like him. I have to bet it is him.

I wish I had a side-view photo to compare with though!

Default side view of rothrock...(the other side!)

This one is just listed up on ebay and can't link pic but if u click on it and maximize it's pretty darn close to your picture. I'm obviously a collector of old cardinal items and just couldn't stop looking for something without coming close to convincing you! It's been enjoyable looking for these and best wishes on the rest of your remaining photos. Regards, Brandon
