Standard Catalog of Vintage Cards question
What is the most recent edition of this guide, and do we expect an update in the next year or two?

2016 I think was the last. The 2011 was the last to include post 1980 issues. Not likely to be another. There have been threads in here on the need versus economics of hard copy or updated on line data base

I love the idea of a new a refreshed catalog with the necessary corrections made.
For those that have have used the 2011 Edition, it really made War and Peace look like a short story. My dream would be 2 editions, pre-1990 and post-1990. With the madness that ultra modern has become, it is likely to be close in size already to the entire history of cards. I also think its more than time to move the goal posts from the 1980 modern date to preferably 1990 (before the monster push into inserts and such) or an easier date like 2000. 1980 is coming up on 45 years ago. In reference seemingly when the term was coined 52' Topps were a far newer issue than 1981 fleer.

It might not have everything listed in the standard catalog but for me it has been replaced by TCDB. The Trading Card Data Base doesn’t have value amounts but those weren’t much use from the standard catalog anyway.

price guide
Id even settle for a flimsy newspaper style " CCP" that would simply do one decade per issue

I like the Becket Vintage Annual, especially because it has all 4 sports in one book

I use TCDB if I know what issue I am looking for and it is excellent at that task. I learned a large percentage of my knowledge entering the hobby on identification and new issues (to me) by constantly thumbing through the Standard Catalog. Just perusing those pages gave me an encyclopedia of knowledge.

It's easier to read the OPG than the print edition. Rich

Is the 2016 edition worth getting in 2024? Does anybody have an extra they would part with? I've never been a price guide guy but I'd like to look through for some oddball sets I've never seen before. Thanks.

I got my copy of the 4th edition (2014) for $1 at a library book sale and I've found it fun to flip through. I agree with Justin Davenport that something like TCDB is great if you know what you're looking for, but it's harder to discover things from it than it is flipping through a book.

Just an FYI - I have the 2013 Standard Catalog in PDF form. Its super functional to be able to "Ctrl-f" and search the entire document at once. DM me if you'd like me to email a copy.
